What’s driving the evolution of brand purpose? ?? ?? ?? ? Last week we hosted a thought provoking roundtable with comms leaders across private, public, and non-profit sectors, who shared their experiences and views of a rapidly changing landscape. There's only so much you can cover in an hour, but some of the key takeaways: - We're moving from purpose vs profit > to purpose with profit - Purpose can be a north star, but it must be anchored to something more than the end goal, such as values - Australia once led on progressive issues, but not so much anymore - Society's rage presents an opportunity for brands to educate and unite - There is strength in numbers when tackling sensitive issues - Purpose is evolving from planet to people-first - Youth are demanding rapid change from inside and out - There's a cost of not investing in purpose The findings will feed into Havas Red's global Purpose white paper, coming out in October. In our current recycling system, less than 10% of plastic is recycled — and when it does get recycled it only gets a few turns before it is sent to landfill. But, plastics have remarkable properties that keep them deeply embedded in our products and our societies. We use them in our homes, our schools and in our work. Packaging, fashion, automotive, the health industry — we all rely on this material. How can we press rewind on the “plastic is bad” narrative and find a way to put the plastics sitting in landfills to good use? As a business and marketing consultant trying to nudge the world towards meeting the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, I faced a challenge earlier this year. And that challenge was SWAG! My client wanted to go big for their team, but my instinct was to go small... I didn't want to be responsible for creating tons of shite nobody wanted. After a few challenging weeks, we found a great solution: 1. PROVIDE OPTIONS We let the team choose what free swag they wanted or if they wanted us to donate on their behalf to a well-managed quality natural capital project. Allowing choice will hopefully mean the swag is more likely to be worn/used instead of being wasted. 2. CREATE GREAT SWAG Again, increasing the likelihood of items being worn/used we put a lot of effort and creativity into designing unique and valuable items that the team might cherish. 3. SUSTAINABLE SOURCING It took talking to about 8 suppliers, but ultimately, we found a partner committed to best-practice sourcing of materials, pollution-conscious processing and low-carbon transportation. In summary: create great swag that folks might love and not just bin, don't assume what your team might like, produce it with the lightest impact and then let your team choose.

LETS TALK ABOUT SWAG!! As we make plans for our events later this year we want to hear what matters most to you when it comes to freebies. With our minds on the environment and sustainability, we’d love to hear about what has been your favourite event swag – what do you actually use? What are you sick of seeing? What would you like to see more of and what is most important to you when you decide if you’re going to pick up some swag or not?

This past week has been a whirlwind of learning, connection, and inspiration. Each experience reminded me of my superpower - to have fun, stay grounded, and create meaningful connections. Here’s a snapshot of what made this week so impactful: ? Facilitating Good Vibes and Connections I started my week speaking with the amazing Fazilat Ahmed. We shared deep conversations, laughter, and experiences—it was a moment of brilliant energy and connection. ?? Designing your ESG communication strategy A powerful session led by the phenomenal Gihan Hyde exploring the differences between ESG, CSR, and sustainability. One standout example was REI’s #OptOutside campaign, where they close all their stores and online shop on Black Friday, still pay their staff, and encourage everyone to spend the day outdoors. A bold and inspiring example of values-driven action! #CIPRLearn ?? Association of Chairs Event and the Importance of Data I loved catching up with familiar faces, meeting new ones, and seeing AoC’s new brand come to life! Their guide (will drop the link in comments) on building inclusive boards stood out, not just for its content, but for the data-driven approach behind it. Understanding the survey context made the guide even more impactful. Data truly makes the difference when creating meaningful resources. ?? Women of Colour Networking with Srabani Sen OBE This space was both safe and transformative. We tackled the unique challenges women of colour face daily, in raw, honest, and affirming conversations. And yet, we laughed - a reminder of resilience and shared strength. “Send the lift back down” struck a chord. Sometimes, it feels like I’m not even in the lift—the doors are closed, and I’m still pressing the button. But these conversations reminded me that solidarity and persistence open doors. Each moment left me energised and excited about the future. Connection and community-building fuel me, and I’m laying the foundation to step boldly into 2026, ready to make an impact. Here’s to the quiet rebels and powerful introverts building their own communities—you inspire me every day. Let’s keep going!
