If you think about the population of West Indians in the US, knife, 5% of us are in Brooklyn. I'm from Trinidad, my husband's from Trinidad, all friends from Jamaica, St. Lucia, Grenada, Barbados. I feel very, very, very, very connected here. Hi, my name is Shelly Marshall. I'm the owner of Island Park. We sell Caribbean inspired ice cream, ice pops and sobeys in the heart of Brooklyn. We created the business in 2015 when I got sick after a holiday in Trinidad and I was craving soup ice cream. We noticed that there was no Caribbean flavors like sour stuff, Guinness, grape nut, passion fruit, hibiscus and we wanted to bring that to our customers and to the neighborhood. I usually tell people like we don't sell ice cream in here. We sell like nostalgia and memories because we have two types of customers. One type. Is the Caribbean born black myself or someone who was a descendant of the Caribbean and they know the flavors When they come in here, it's like takes them in Portales, them right back to their childhoods. We have another set of customers, people who have traveled maybe on a honeymoon, on a girls trip to Jamaica or Trinidad and they kind of know the flavors as well. We channel that to them throughout flavours. So everyone has a story with all of our flavours. We bring in interns through the youth development program and we bring in about 6 to 8 per summer and every summer we at least hire two of them. So they come in, they'll learn logistics, they'll learn packaging, customer service, sales accounts. And so we kind of like show them into how to run a business, even if it's ice cream shop. We do a lot of work with the Brooklyn Children's Museum, also the Brooklyn Library. And we kind of like always make ourselves available when they have stuff going on with the kids in the summer. I think 234000 people come through here, believe it or not, in this small shop and meet people who want to be investors. I meet people who want to just be our friends. I meet people who we hang out on the weekends with now. So meeting new people and being able to like interact with customers. Like one of the best parts of the business, they're cribbing people in Atlanta, there's in Miami, there's in DC, they're they're everywhere even though 95% of us are here. So what's up? It's like it's gonna be the next big thing.
