It is crucial that individuals with a history of sexual abuse should be removed from the medical field due to their close proximity to children and vulnerable adults. Public safety must always be prioritized over professional reputation, livelihoods or careers. #StopSexualAbuse #PatientFirst

Paramedics do incredible, lifesaving work and fewer than 1% of practitioners regulated by the The Health and Care Professions Council have concerns raised against them each year. But concerns about sexual misconduct are over-represented, especially amongst paramedics. Every victim of sexual abuse is one too many. Cultural change is needed from leadership down. Sexual harassment should be treated as high a priority as waiting times and crumbling hospitals. The HCPC has created a sexual safety hub https://lnkd.in/einubWyG as part of our efforts to keep patients and practitioners safe. We will do everything possible to stop this scourge. #paramedics #sexualsafety #sexualmisconduct #alliedhealthprofessionals #patientsafety #nhs #healthcare

WE CAN’T POLICE OURSELVES OUT OF KNIFE CRIME. Recently there has been lots of talk from politicians about how to reduce knife crime. Both the left and the right in the last week have spoken about more powers to the police or tougher sentencing being the starting point. We can’t arrest our way out of this issue. We need more holistic, therapeutic support, trauma informed solutions provided at the earliest point of a young person’s life. We need a more joined up partnership approach and funding redistributed to those organisations actually doing the work. Practitioners also need to better equipped to understand the issue better.

#leadership #whistleblowing #culture #hr #management #peopleandculture #conflictresolution Jayne Chidgey-Clark thank you for welcoming this review. Unfortunately the four recommendations of the review into the culture of NHS Ambulance Trusts ignore the sad reality. 1. An INDEPENDENT system of recording of concerns at the earliest opportunity to mitigate Risks and INDEPENDENT investigation is required to have the trust and confidence of stakeholders. Patient safety and staff wellbeing demand this. The National Guardian's Office is an expensive and evidenced failure in protecting #whistleblowing 2. Inadequate and toxic ‘leaders’ in NHS for too long have been rewarded for their failures by a merrygoround of ‘golden goodbyes’ , sideways moves or promotions. This must stop. There is a complete absence of strategic #leadership in NHS prepared to do what is palpably so necessary. Those in positions of responsibility must adhere to the standards declared in ‘The Fit and Proper Person Test’ and the Nolan Principles of Standards in Public Life. The incessant tsunami of Inquiries and Reports into toxicity of cultures all ignore the above two points. The repeated parroting of phrases like ‘lessons learned’ and ‘totally unacceptable’ are frankly embarrassing. Winston Churchill : “ ACTION this day”. #leadership is accountability and responsibility.
We welcome the findings and recommendations in NHS England’s?publication?of their culture review of ambulance trusts. This important report echoes some of the desperate stories workers told us in our Speak Up review – of a working environment where people experienced sexual harassment, racism and bullying. This report amplifies our observation, that regulators and leaders must put staff experience on an equal footing with patient outcomes.
