Still on the International Open RAN Symposium: Day 3 Recap: International Open RAN Symposium The final day of the International Open RAN Symposium was dedicated to addressing deployment challenges and fostering collaboration across the industry. We kicked off with a spotlight session by Ajay Rajkumar, CTO of AT&T Network and Chair of the O-RAN Operator Advisory Team, who shed light on the key hurdles in Open RAN deployments and shared strategies to navigate them effectively. The rest of the day was highly interactive, with workshops and breakout sessions facilitated by experts like David Debrect and Mark Poletti of CableLabs, and Lauriston Hardin from NTIA. These sessions provided attendees the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, share insights, and collaboratively develop actionable solutions for Open RAN implementation. One of the highlights was the focused effort to report out from the breakout sessions and form concrete action plans. These discussions culminated in identifying projects with the strongest industry support, facilitated by Ian Wong (VIAVI) and Olli Andersson (Telecom Infra Project). The day closed with a sense of optimism and a clear path forward as we wrapped up three days of innovative ideas, cross-industry cooperation, and actionable strategies to advance Open RAN globally. The RIC Forum concluded yesterday with an exciting panel discussion on Open RAN vendors’ vision for full deployment. Dritan Kaleshi from Digital Catapult joined Gil Hellmann, Michael A.J. Murphy and Rakesh Misra in the conversation moderated by Sean Kinney. Some key takeaways: ?? The RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) allows vendors to differentiate their offering adding value with functionalities such as conflict management, making it simpler for MNOs to control the RAN. ?? Private networks can be a stepping stone for smaller Open RAN vendors to enter the market however, the enterprise market isn’t as mature as we expected. ?? Current badging measures a full list of features but a new mechanism to translate TRL for some specific features that will support enterprise?could help smaller vendors demonstrate their readiness. ?? Governments could provide test environments for developers to test RIC based applications on real or simulated networks.
