Great piece from Colin Barnard: The #naval #response to the #Red #Sea #Crisis has involved various aspects, ranging from cooperation with merchant shipping to assessing the cost #effectiveness and #vulnerabilities of using #warships and #missiles to #counter #drones, while also considering the role of #allies and the implications for #potential #conflicts with #China????. Efforts by entities like #NAVCENT #NCAGS, #CTF153 #NCAGS,# UKMTO, #UKMCC, and the Industry in the #JMIC align well with #NATO's #NCAGS doctrine, although the #NATO #Shipping #Centre could take a more proactive role. Consolidating responsibilities under the #JMIC could enhance industry support by providing a single point of contact. Initially, there was uncertainty surrounding #NCAGS efforts in this #crisis, emphasizing the importance of timely organization and communication to ensure effective #coordination and #transparency, with #public #affairs playing a vital role in keeping #shipping #stakeholders #informed.

The word frigate originally was a generic term to describe any lightly armed, fast, and maneuverable warship. https://bit.ly/4eekpuq

"Sea conditions stop Marines from amphibious landings at Normandy to mark D-Day." ------------- An all-weather oh darn... Actually a rare case of the Universe righting a wrong. We should not have been commemorating something we had no part in in the first place. However -- we can still do Guams' 80th Aniverssary in July -- if we hurry -- because rumor has it we were actually there in '44 to liberate it from the Sons of Nippon. I wonder if a branch of one of our Armed Forces could possibly transport some Marines to Guam again (all the way to the southern tip of the Marianas Archipelago) say...through the water...and once there, the Marines could enter some sort of ship-to-shore amphibious connector in order to go ashore to commemorate the great deeds of our forefathers (and for a Dog & Pony show and police call.) Do we still even have a branch that uses ships to transport Marines to every clime and place? I know we used to. If not, I guess we could ask the Army or the Space Force or UPS or Pack 10 Webelos from Lakehurst N.J. to do it for us. It's no skin off of DoD knees. Remember folks, these days it's all about confusing efforts with results and form over function... and DEI... #JuneisPTSDawarenessmonth

To honour our veterans today, we mark this D-Day 80th anniversary by continuing our support to the armed forces and their families. During the Second World War, Costain engineers helped create the Mulberry Harbours, a floating concrete port that was towed in sections across the English Channel to give the Allies a logistics foothold in France in the days following the D-Day invasion. In total, 213 precast reinforced concrete caissons had to be floated in secret across the Channel to Normandy where they were sunk into the seabed and acted as breakwaters, creating temporary harbours. Within the harbours, engineers had to establish 23 floating jetties, each 1.2km long resting on 670 pontoons. These provided troops with artificial havens to shelter ships arriving for the Normandy invasions of 1944. Working with our customers, we continue to support the strategic #defence capabilities and operations that protect the UK, its people, values, and interests. Remembering the Invasion of Grenada, October 25, 1983 Today marks the anniversary of the Invasion of Grenada, a crucial operation executed just two days after the tragic Beirut barracks bombing. The 22nd Marine Amphibious Unit (MAU), initially heading to Lebanon, was redirected with only 48 hours’ notice, showcasing exceptional adaptability. Under MajGen Alfred Gray, the unit trained in Maneuver Warfare, a concept validated during the operation and later formalized in Marine Corps doctrine. The seven-day mission freed American medical students and restored democracy after a brutal Marxist coup. The operation provided a vital morale boost to the nation and highlighted the flexibility of Navy-Marine Amphibious Task Groups to respond to global crises. Honoring Joint Forces The Army Rangers’ valor, including parachuting into direct fire, and the heroism of Marine Cobra pilots Capts. Giguere, Scharver, Howard, and Segal, who provided crucial air support, underscore the importance of joint operations. Legacy Highlights: Speed and Adaptability: Demonstrated with 48 hours' notice. Maneuver Warfare Success: Validated principles later proven in the Gulf War. Gen. Vessey’s Observation: “One Marine rifle company running rampant... thousands of Army troops that can't get out of the barracks.” Amphibious Flexibility: Showcased the readiness of Navy-Marine Task Groups. Restoring U.S. Resolve: Provided a victory after the Beirut bombing, liberating Grenada. The Grenada operation set a precedent for joint coordination and Maneuver Warfare, shaping future American military strategy. Share your thoughts and memories of this significant event!

There is no more critical mission for our country than delivering AUKUS. It is a multi-generational national endeavour to secure our sovereignty in a dangerous world. Terrific to catch up with HII on their visit to Australia to discuss the steps we need to take to deliver Virginia Class submarines. #aukus #defence #nationalsecurity

My analysis: "#BRACOLPER at 50: A Model Multinational #RiverineExercise ??? " for CIMSEC: Center for International Maritime Security Multinational naval exercises occur frequently across the globe. They are effective confidence-building mechanisms that promote integration, cooperation, and trust while improving the participating personnel’s capabilities and expertise. The most prominent naval exercises in the Western Hemisphere ?? are the US-sponsored #UNITAS, #SOLIDAREX, and #TRADEWINDS. However, naval exercises do not solely occur at sea but also occur in inland bodies of water. Enter the multinational riverine exercise BRACOLPER, which, as the name suggests, brings together the navies from Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. ?? #Brazil ???? #Colombia ???? #Peru ???? #military #Navy ? #Marines #Amazon ?? #Amazonas #EjercicioMilitar #EjercicioFluvial ?? Today in autonomy: ?The Battle for the Black Sea! Philip Hicks continues his compelling series in WARSHIPS International Fleet Review, examining the strategic impact of Ukraine's asymmetrical drone campaign against Moscow's navy. Drawing on meticulous research and insights from experts such as Samuel Bendett, a researcher at the U.S. Center for Naval Analyses (CNA), and Sir George Zambellas, former First Sea Lord of the Royal Navy, the article highlights key lessons from the conflict. The Russian Navy has faced considerable challenges countering Ukraine's innovative drone tactics. Early phases of the conflict revealed critical vulnerabilities in Russian defenses against unmanned systems. This ongoing confrontation in the northern Black Sea has become a proving ground for modern naval warfare, exposing weaknesses and shaping emerging trends that are poised to redefine global maritime strategy. #USV #NAVALWARFARE #CRIMEA #RUSSIA #UNMANNEDSYSTEMS #UNCREWED #UXS

For the first time ever, see the Southwick House D Day Map up close as our interactive guide takes you on a step by step journey, from the early preparation right through to the final assault and the days after. Today marks the 80th anniversary of Operation Overlord, the Allied liberation of occupied Europe during the Second World War, which began on 6 June, 1944, commonly referred to as D-Day. Operation Neptune was the naval assault phase and involved safely landing 156,000 troops on 50 miles of defended coastline. The objective was clear - to transport and land Allied forces on the beaches of Normandy, France, to establish a foothold in Nazi-occupied Europe. Coordination of naval gunfire support, mine-sweeping operations, amphibious landings, and logistical support for the invasion would be crucial. The complex operation required years of meticulous planning and coordination among the Allied forces. https://bit.ly/3RaBBIj #DDAY #DDAY80 #DDayMap
