????HR 8371 ???? is officially on the books. After two years of efforts on both sides, this bill will better support veterans, CAREGIVERS and survivors by improving access to VA health care and benefits, and expanding long-term care programs. It will enhance job training and employment opportunities for veterans, provide critical assistance for homeless veterans, and, last but not least, improve the ability of Native American veterans to achieve homeownership.

Thank you to all of the veterans who chose to put on a uniform and serve your country. You made a choice, and a sacrifice, because you felt that our great nation required it. Some fun statistics about veterans in the U.S.; 1. In 2022 there were 16,200,000 veterans in the U.S, 6.2% of population (down from 25M in 1990). 2. The poverty rate for veterans is about 7.5%, which is lower than the national average of ~12% (a good news story). 3. Alaska was the state with the highest % of veterans in 2022 at 10.1%, with NY and DC the lowest at 3.7% and 4%, respectively. 4. Texas has the highest number of veterans at 1.4M. 5. By 2045 the number of veterans is predicted to decrease to 12M (we'll be even more elite!). 6. The share of employed veterans who are government workers is 22.8%. 7. And finally, thank you to our WWII and Korean war vets, since 42% of males 75 years and older are veterans!

"Thank you for your sacrifice." It's time to shift our language when expressing gratitude to veterans. While "thank you for your service" is a common phrase, it can feel patronizing and doesn't fully capture the character of those who were drafted or volunteered to serve in the military. The oath taken by all military personnel is a solemn vow of allegiance and obedience, one that describes loyalty, commitment, and devotion, at a significant personal cost. -Missed milestones: births, funerals, graduations -Relocating: changing homes, schools, and communities -Toll on physical and mental health -Divorce and broken families We call it the "ultimate sacrifice" when someone gives their life for their country. The phrase 'all gave some, some gave all' encapsulates this sentiment. It's time to recognize the true meaning of these sacrifices. Let's start a campaign to change the language from "thank you for your service" to "thank you for your sacrifice." This more accurately reflects what our veterans have done and given for their country and its citizens.
