The Federal and New South Wales Governments have announced they have both allocated an extra $218.6 million to address safety issues across the state's road network. That's a total of more than $437.3 million in new funding to be spent on 230 projects in urban and regional areas and reduce the frequency and severity of collisions. In regional NSW, funding will go towards safety upgrades along sections of the Barton, Great Western, Illawarra, Kamilaroi, Kings, New England, Oxley, Princes and Snowy Mountains Highways, as well as Big River, Burley Griffin, Goldfields, Kidman and Waterfall Ways. The funding will also be spent on safety upgrades and intersection improvements on local roads, shared cycle and pedestrian paths, and within school zones. Are the citizens of San Diego getting their money’s worth out of the city government??It would be hard to tell by reading the proposed 2025 budget. Performance measures in the new budget differ significantly from prior years, making it difficult to determine how efficiently the city departments are performing. Past performance measures in the 2024 budget that provided a good index of actual performance have been eliminated from the current budget: Transportation Department: miles of street resurfacing it plans to complete (although the mayor refers to a goal of 60 miles in his introductory statement, far less than what was accomplished in prior years). Engineering & Capital Projects Department:?there is no actual performance measure reporting for E&CP, the department responsible for managing billions of dollars in construction contracts. PUD: miles of sewer pipeline replaced.?In 2023, the department fell short of its goal of 40 miles by only replacing 30 miles. Homeless Services: the number of individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness. Stormwater:?percent of planned channel clearance completed on schedule and number of planned channel clearings completed on schedule. In addition, the budget document no longer includes performance from prior years, making it difficult to track progress over time. San Diego taxpayers deserve a budget that provides up to date and relevant information on government programs.?The city reported this information in the past and should step up its game to do so when the budget is finalized. ?? https://lnkd.in/gyyJ2RSd.

The Bruce Highway in Queensland between Maryborough and Benaraby is one of the priority sections of the highway to be upgraded and fixed as part of a multi-billion dollar funding package to boost safety for road users. The Federal Government this week announced it would spend an extra $7.2 billion along the length of the highway to bring its safety rating to a minimum three-stars. The funding will fast-track critical projects and will initially focus on priority sections north of Gympie with higher than average crash rates. This includes the section between Maryborough and Benaraby, which passes through Fraser Coast. The road works may include installing safety barriers, wide centre lines and audio tactile line marking; constructing wider shoulders; increasing run off areas, overtaking lanes and rest areas; and improving intersections, signage and sight lines. Work will also be undertaken on the road surface to improve its resilience during weather events. Works are expected to start this year. As of today the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority's Street Smart NJ Pedestrian Safety Program has reached 257 organizations since we started in 2013. Some communities have participated in Street Smart NJ activities several times while others have participated just once but we have reached at least one community in EVERY NJ County! We encourage all of our partners to follow us on social media to share our safety posts. Please encourage your community to get involved for the first time or restart your pedestrian safety program by participating in additional Street Smart NJ activities. We have added messaging to include all Vulnerable Road Users (VRU) to help bring attention to NJ's Save Passing Law (SPL) The Safe Passing Law requires drivers to use “due caution” whenever they see vulnerable people on the road. The law states that: Drivers must follow all current no passing, no speeding laws AND move over a lane if there’s one to move into. On a single-lane road, drivers must allow at least a 4-foot safety zone when they pass. If 4 feet is not possible on a section of road, drivers must slow to 25 mph and be prepared to stop until they can pass safely without endangering those sharing the road. Below is a complete list of participating organizations listed by County. Contact me to learn more- [email protected]

For the third year in a row, Mayor Adams' administration has fallen short of the legally mandated goals in the Streets Plan, putting lives at risk and breaking trust with New Yorkers. This year? Just 23.6 miles of protected bike lanes were built — less than half of the required 50 miles. ??♀? Protected bike lanes save lives. So why isn’t the mayor following the law to build them? We’re thrilled to see City Council taking action to ensure accountability with a Streets Plan tracker. Every gap in our bike network puts New Yorkers in danger, which is why we’re particularly excited about Intro 1105, introduced by Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chair Selvena N. Brooks-Powers. This bill would require DOT to track and publicly report its progress toward the Streets Plan goals — with monthly updates on project timelines, funding, delays, and more. Transparency like this is essential to creating a safer, more connected city for everyone. It's past time to hold this administration accountable, because New Yorkers deserve safer streets. ?? Check out our bike lane tracker. https://lnkd.in/eEuAJzMc

One of our roles is to serve as the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for Pinellas County. This article provides a nice introduction to what MPOs are and what they do. https://lnkd.in/erg-8uPm

Not the best option
In communities from Everett to Lake Forest Park to Pierce County, Sound Transit's light rail plans will be demolishing businesses and greenspaces -- in many cases for little to no gain. People living in West Seattle should especially be aware. Gridlock, 165 foot tall towers, and many neighborhoods will get obliterated by light rail construction at a massive cost. And for what? Sound Transit's own data shows it will do almost nothing to increase ridership or reduce congestion. Go to smartertransit.org to sign the petition and bring accountability back to this public agency. #signthepetition #accountability #smartertransit #lightrail #Boondoggle #westseattlelife #westseattle

Within the Greater Transit Zone, all low-density districts with commercial overlays would have access to the R5 Town Center regulations. This means, for example, that an R3X district with a commercial overlay located in the Greater Transit Zone would receive 2.0 residential FAR and 2.5 total FAR along with a maximum height of 55 feet. These allowances would accommodate denser mixed-use development in areas with good transit access. #cityofyes #developmentsites #developmentsiteadvisors #nyc #weknowzoning
