Cisco is set to announce layoffs potentially affecting over 4,000 employees while Dell has already begun cutting thousands from their sales team These aren't just ordinary cost-cutting measures. We're witnessing a seismic shift in the tech industry, with AI and cybersecurity taking center stage. Here's a detailed breakdown: Cisco's situation: -- Recently acquired Splunk, a cybersecurity firm, for an astounding $28 billion -- Facing significant challenges: slow demand, supply chain constraints in their core networking business -- Last earnings report (April) showed a major decline in both revenue and net income -- Potentially using these layoffs to streamline operations post-Splunk acquisition Dell's strategy: -- Implementing a major reorganization of their sales structure -- Creating a dedicated sales unit focused exclusively on AI products -- Aiming to substantially increase AI-related revenue 1. Both companies are losing market share to emerging competitors: ? Cisco challenged by Arista Networks in networking ? Dell pressured by budget PC manufacturers like Acer 2. The focus on AI and cybersecurity might be partially a cover for necessary cost-cutting measures 3. Both firms are struggling to maintain profit margins in the face of lukewarm customer demand With the tech industry rapidly evolving and AI reshaping job roles, staying competitive is essential. Whether you're a recent graduate or a seasoned professional, future-proofing your career is crucial. Here's how Resumod can help: ??Create a Modern Resume: Align your resume with current industry trends. ??Quick & Easy: Use professional templates to stand out. ??Single-Page Simplicity: Present key information concisely. I've been involved in many layoffs over the years, and I know that you tend to want to make the one on one conversations as quick as possible because those chats are upsetting. Affected employees generally want to get out so that they can talk to family or just get as far away from the company as they can. And the person delivering the news feels awkward and embarrassed. But group meetings are a different thing. However difficult and emotional they might be, as a leader it's kind of important to stand there in front of your team, answer questions to the best of your ability, and show some general sense of empathy. Reading this article, IBM's Chief Communications Officer will be wincing painfully at the mention of the mere seven minutes he spent talking about layoffs in marketing and communications at the company. Maybe he offered more time but everybody was too shellshocked to listen. Maybe there were other unavoidable circumstances. But it's a specific enough detail that it was clearly leaked by a member of the group who was super unhappy about the exchange, and they wasted no time in sharing it with a sympathetic journalist. Moral of the story: whether you're an experienced communicator or not, always think about how your actions might be positioned by those who are on the receiving end of your message, especially during layoffs.

Cisco announced 10.3 billion in PROFIT and 7% reduction in force. Around 6000 people losing jobs. Earlier this year they laid off 4000 people. And 10 billion in profit? Yes it’s shareholder greed. Yes, it’s what Copprate America is. Yes, that’s life. Layoffs are a part of the world. Yes, they need to remain competitive and restructure in the face of AI and other things But we can still acknowlege this is awful. And no working for yourself isn’t the answer to change the corporate world. When I was laid off, I felt so sorry for those laid off, knowing what they were about to face, and even more fear for myself as thousands more talented jobseekers joined me in a tough market. We need to support laid off workers, make the process of interviewing easy, and stop celebrating billions in profit while causing chaos for thousands of people and their families Be a good human

It’s disheartening to witness the recent layoffs at Cisco, impacting thousands of dedicated employees. The frustration voiced by staff on platforms like Blind underscores a profound disconnect between leadership decisions and employee well-being. These layoffs, driven seemingly by cost-cutting measures rather than the value of talent, raise critical questions about the corporate culture we’re fostering. A workplace should be a supportive environment where individuals feel secure and valued—not one where job security feels like a gamble. We must remember that our greatest asset is our people. Investing in our teams, even during challenging times, can yield long-term benefits far beyond immediate financial gains. It’s essential to approach such difficult decisions with empathy and transparency, ensuring that the voices of our employees are heard and valued. Let’s strive to create a culture that prioritizes resilience, support, and open communication—because the true measure of leadership is how we care for our teams, especially in times of crisis. #HRLeadership #EmpathyInLeadership #EmployeeWellbeing #CorporateCulture #Cisco
