At NGA, we couldn’t fit our appreciation for our veteran employees’ service into one day, so we’re celebrating all month long. Throughout November, we’ll be highlighting employees from each branch of our military and honoring their service to our great nation. We are so proud that they continue to serve in our nation’s defense every day at NGA. Happy #VeteransMonth! ???

To kick off #WorldGeographyWeek, check out this #MappyMonday of a vintage United States Air Force, evasion chart created by NIMA, an NGA-predecessor agency. ??? ??? These unique charts are made with spin-bonded olefin, a material that does not stretch or crack, and is not sensitive to temperature change, making them life savers on the battlefield. The borders and background of the charts depict a camouflage pattern. The charts provide survival data relevant to the geographic areas they represent, such as navigation and travel information, celestial navigation aids, climate data, lists and pictures of edible and poisonous plants and animals, food preparation instructions, suggestions for sources of water, first aid procedures, and descriptions of environmental hazards NGA continues making evasion charts today. Whether service members need ground cloth for sleeping, shelter or a bag to haul food, these evasion charts are useful for survival in more ways than one. ?? ??
