This year, the wild cacao forests of the Amazon are facing an especially tough challenge with wildfires burning through the forests that are home to some of the rarest cacao varieties in the world. At Kindred Forest, we’re passionate about protecting the wild places that give us some of the world’s most incredible ingredients. So we wanted to bring attention to the wildfires. Protecting these rainforests isn’t just about saving wild cacao — it’s about preserving biodiversity and the livelihoods of the local communities. Know that we have a right to food? Angry that this isn’t a reality? In the UK, nearly 10 million adults are food insecure and less than 0.4% of public spending goes to support farming and food production. Farmers are struggling to make a living. Our food system fails to nourish us. And yet food is a basic human right, protected under international law. There is work to be done. The right to food is a powerful tool for change, but without constructive and collaborative work to make it tangible, it will remain an empty slogan that fails to make a real difference. We are fundraising to begin paving the way to a right to food in the UK. Four Million Meals Donated Through Partnership with FareShare Since partnering with FareShare in 2017, as a group we have surpassed the milestone of supplying the equivalent of Four Million Meals over the duration of our partnership. Our partnership with FareShare helps support its network of over 8,000 charities, reaching over a million people in need across the UK. FareShare strengthens communities by taking good food, that would otherwise go to waste and getting it to local charities who use it to support people in their communities. Our cross business ESG champions have worked with local business units to enable supply chain solutions to facilitate surpluses to be supplied through to FareShare, with fresh produce ranging from lettuce, celery, radish, beetroot, mushrooms, beans and spring onions being supplied through the partnership. #FareShare #ESG #FoodRedistribution
