European Startup migration to the US. Here we go again. AI London-founded scaleup 11x.ai - developing “digital workers” that automate junior sales roles - has raised a $24m Series A led by Benchmark — and relocated its HQ to San Francisco. The company’s head of growth Keith Fearon told Sifted its investors said it had to make the move. He also added that it makes business sense due to the wealth of engineering talent in the Bay Area, higher valuations from VCs and the fact the bulk of its customers are in the US. Everything above resonates. But the new EU Commission needs to bridge this gap—sooner rather than later. Let's build "Europe for Startups". Europe as a single market (and I include the UK in it), could be an amazing place for startups and founders to build and scale their companies in. Especially after the US elections, we have a chance to make this a home to companies and entrepreneurs that are building technologies and innovations in areas of impact like AI, Climate, biotech, robotics and more. To make this region an attractive place for startups we need to address 4 things: ?? Mindset - Founders that are going to the US, get feedback that they can thing big, scale massively and go global. We need to adapt and adopt this mindset and allow both founders and investors to THINK BIG! ?? Size of Venture Capital Rounds - I have many conversations with founders who are raising both in the US and in the EU. A VC round of 800k equals a round of $6 million in the US - same stage, same quality of the team, same industry. We need to inject more capital into startups and quicker! ?? M&A Landscape - If we incentivize corporations to buy new innovation and startups, that will position the single market as a leading place in adopting innovation. Corporations should be incentivized to buy companies. That will feed the Venture Capital industry, and invite amazing founders to build and scale their startups here. ?? Europe is Diversity - an amazing thing Europe has to offer is diversity, of talent, culture, thoughts and ideas. Somehow, that created complexity of policies and regulations, but we need to leverage that diversity for new companies and innovation to be unique and successful. ???? ???? Despite a challenging year globally, European startups raised $51 billion in funding in 2024, a 5% decline year over year but still above pre-pandemic levels. Key highlights: ?? The UK, France, and Germany lead funding, with $17B, $7.9B, and $7.6B, respectively. ?? Healthcare/biotech, financial services, and AI topped investment sectors. ?? Late-stage funding declined the most, but Q4 saw a 13% increase QoQ, ending the year on a high note. Read more:

#Sifted recently published its Sifted 50 Germany Leaderboard, which ranks the fastest-growing German #startups by revenue growth. Some interesting insights in there: 1. B2B SaaS business models have a significant share among growth leaders. #Fintech and consumer are well represented, #climatetech remains a dynamic theme, and #deeptech continues to see strong inflows of capital. The report validates the strong potential of deeptech in Germany as one of the preeminent industrial technology economies. 2. German bureaucracy remains a headache for founders. We are all reading daily comments on the dismal state of the German economy and the public sector. Lots to do here, and let's hope that the relevant decision-makers listen to ecosystem voices and organizations like Startup-Verband. 3. Larger exits remain a challenge. According to founders and VCs, Germany and Europe need to do more to convince founders and shareholders to IPO on the Continent and not in the U.S.. Fully subscribe to that. 4. But even more importantly, for a more balanced contribution to the many pressing challenges we face on a global scale. The European startup scene is fragmented. Legal and regulatory compliance is a burden, and cross-border collaboration is rare. While US investors invest coast-to-coast, European capital typically sticks within national borders.
