Representatives from more than 85 companies heard from #NUWCDivisionNewport leaders and decision-makers about current and future partnership opportunities during Industry Day, a biennial event hosted by Division Newport and the R.I. Chapter of the National Contract Management Association (NCMA) on Oct. 16. What does it mean to have an arsenal of democracy today? How do we incentivize industry to invest in capabilities that contribute to national defense? How do we incentivize the acquisition workforce and military leaders to manage (not avoid) risks while innovating at speed and scale? This framework guided the conversation of our panel of Service Acquisition Flag Officers, chaired by Michael Williamson, President of Lockheed Martin. Panelists were Alice T., Frank Lozano, Chris Manning, David Walsh, and Cherissa T. Lots of consensus that we need to get the incentives right, and people need to understand the "why" behind requests to go faster or operate differently. From this year's 21st Annual Acquisition Research Symposium, co-hosted with Naval Warfare Studies Institute at Naval Postgraduate School and Department of Defense Management at Naval Postgraduate School. Florida For Good (FFG), was created to assist companies in the state that wish to become more sustainable in their operations, in line with the standards set by B Lab and their B Impact Assessment, a respected, worldwide certification. In the past few years, we have cultivated a thriving community of hundreds of members who are committed to using the power of business as a force for good, and have helped grow the number of Certified B Corps in Florida from 17 in 2018 to 44 to date. TODAY at 11 AM EST we are hosting a virtual open house as a short introduction to the work we do at FFG. Not only will this be a forum to learn about the value we can add to you and your organization, you will also get a chance to meet our team of dedicated volunteers in Miami and hear case studies from them about how the B Corp movement and our community has brought success to their companies.
