With adaptation costs skyrocketing, in the research of the holy grail of cost recovery tariff, the economic level of losses (ELL) is a must do exercise for water operators, no matter whether public or private. Under the #U4C initiative IFC - International Finance Corporation has worked with its major client Sabesp on this frontier analysis.
Will you be at the WaterLoss 2024 conference next week ? Yes ? ???? Exciting News! Discover how developing a model to define the Economic Level of Losses of a water distribution system can enhance water utilities' management, boost performance, and save millions of cubic meters of water! ???? As a result of recent legislation and government policy in the U.K., water companies now have obligations to significantly reduce storm overflow operations. Reducing sewer overflows results in a variety of impacts from catchment through sewerage networks to water resource recovery facilities (WRRFs). Downstream impacts of reducing sewer overflows include an increase in flow and load (nutrient and organic) to WRRFs, which will put pressure on existing wastewater infrastructure. This will also have an impact on greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) of methane and nitrous oxide as well as on energy and materials use. Globally, little is understood about the interlinkages between acting on sewer overflows and greenhouse gas emissions- these are not accounted for in current carbon accounting methods.?To address this for the U.K. and Irish sector,?Jacobs is now working on?an UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR)?project with academic partners Aalborg University and University of Galway to provide support in assessing the greenhouse gas emissions impacts of reducing sewer overflows. Stay tuned! Find out more about our work in water decarbonization ??https://lnkd.in/exrqbbbp #Water #Wastewater #ProcessEmissions #CSOs #GHG #Decarbonization

You may already be familiar with consumer redress and advocacy bodies, but what will this look like for heat networks? As Ofgem is establishing the heat network consumer protection regulations, here's a quick breakdown of how consumer advocacy and redress bodies are expected to play a role:? ?? Consumer Advocacy Bodies:?Provide free, independent, and confidential advice on energy disputes. This is expected to be?Citizens Advice for consumers based in?England & Wales, and?Consumer Scotland for consumers based in?Scotland. ? Energy Ombudsman (Alternative Dispute Resolution Body):?Handles all heat network-related complaints, including breaches of regulations. They will continue to manage disputes for Heat Trust schemes and issues related to Energy Bill Relief Scheme (EBRS) and Energy Bills Discount Scheme (EBDS).? ?? Housing Ombudsman: Manages disputes between tenants or?leaseholders and social landlords when there are contractual breaches in?England & Wales.?In Scotland, tenants can contact the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman for landlord complaints. For more information on what's expected from?Ofgem's heat network consumer protection regulations, read our best practice guide:?https://lnkd.in/eTmTEYzh #HeatNetworks #ConsumerProtection #Ombudsman #PropertyManagement #SocialHousing #EnergyDisputes
