At the Midwest Food Bank, an Atmos Energy community partner, 99% of every donation goes directly toward providing food to people in need. The remaining 1% of income is used for fundraising, costs of leadership, oversight, and other administrative expenses. Midwest Food Bank serves over 100 nonprofit partners in Texas by providing bulk food free of charge. These agencies embrace our communities by serving those in need, such as: Children. Senior citizens. Single-parent families. Veterans. In observance of Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about food insecurity and inspire action to combat hunger, Atmos Energy has donated $2 million to food banks to help provide food security for our neighbors in need. Donated items come in the form of: Close-dated items: Products that are close to their expiration date and don't have enough time to reach store shelves. Overruns: Extra products made beyond what was forecasted, often cheaper to keep the production line running. Mislabeled items: Products with packaging errors, like missing ingredients or allergen information. Relabeling is too costly, but we have the volunteer resources to repack and relabel these items. Purposeful Partnerships. Did you know that September is #HungerActionMonth? At Milo's, we strive to create pathways for prosperity for our associates and the communities we serve - and part of that is includes physical and mental wellness. Did you know there are millions of households in America that face food uncertainty every day? Mannington Mills has allocated $10,000 of its Feeding America corporate contribution to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to help those who have been affected by the recent wildfires in the Los Angeles area. New Partnership Alert! ???The Diaper Bank of Skagit County has moved operations to our Food Distribution Center. This partnership enables both of us to better serve the community by providing vital resources to those who need them most. The United Way's role is to receive?diaper?donations and financial donations to purchase?diapers, and then order the products. Community Action's role is to receive shipments of?diapers and other supplies and store them at their Skagit Food Distribution Center, which is the central hub for distributing food to 12 food?banks and three meal programs. The United Way works with local partner agencies to distribute the?diapers and supplies. This collaboration is innovative, because its leverage's Community Action's established warehousing and distribution system, while the United Way can work directly with donors and partner agencies to help the entire community make a bigger collective impact together than any of us can on our own. Turning $200 Into $40,000: Join Our 200 for 200 Campaign At Parkdale Food Centre, we’re starting 2025 with both a challenge and an opportunity. As demand for food and community support continues to rise, we’re launching our 200 for 200 campaign to ensure no neighbor is left behind. Like many agencies in the Ottawa Food Bank network, PFC is feeling the strain. The cost-of-living crisis has pushed more of our neighbors to seek food relief than ever before. Meanwhile, social supports aren’t keeping up with the cost-of-living. In 2019 we served 900 people per month. The demand for emergency food services has sky-rocketed and we now saw over 1,500 per month in 2024. THESE NUMBERS SPEAK VOLUMES. The Ottawa Food Bank, which provides a large portion of our food, has announced reductions in its support to partner agencies by 20%-50%. At the same time, government response to this growing crisis has been slow. The Parkdale Food Centre is only 10% government-funded. We rely almost entirely on grassroots fundraising and community donations. These realities mean that organizations like ours must adapt and innovate to continue meeting the needs of our neighbors. How You Can Help This month, you will begin receiving a $200 rebate. If 200 people pledged their rebates to Parkdale Food Centre, we could raise $40,000—enough to share healthy, culturally appropriate food with 3200 neighbours for two months.
