Hello Muirhead families and followers… We recently shared the old video of our take on ‘the night before christmas’ and a conversation was had about what other stories we could put a Muirhead spin on for next year. Not wanting to wait that long, I started thinking about the best Christmas stories and films and wondered how I could connect the work we do. So here is what I came up with – our favourite Christmas stories and how Muirhead would have been able to help or what role they could have played. Elf – Buddy the elf is great at communicating his emotions and feelings (I love you, I love you, I looooove yoooooou!) however his dad – Walter Hobbs, really struggles. So Walter would have benefited from the week of our foundation work where we help our families to recognise emotions. Having an Elf arrive on your doorstep and finding out you have a big brother is going to be a period of change (even if they give you sugar for breakfast) so we would have wanted to help Michael's mum and dad understand how that might show up and what we could do to reassure him. Transforming End-of-Life Care: A Story of Change and Advocacy For years, I’ve been on a journey to transform how we approach end-of-life care. I advocate for culturally respectful funeral, cemetery, and crematoria services that embody genuine care. This work has taken me into neglected spaces, where I’ve witnessed challenges and incredible opportunities for change. One of my breakthrough moments came during the festive season in our local cemeteries. It was a time when often overlooked voices were heard, and a sense of connection and respect began to take root. These experiences remind me of the power of listening to seldom-heard voices, including the land itself, to guide us toward meaningful change. Living on the edge of life and embracing being different has gifted me unique insights—stories that reframe adversity into strength and resilience, inspiring hope and driving progress. 600 Easter Eggs ?? ?? ?? In 2021, our family was relocated from Victoria to Ottawa. Shortly after, I went on maternity leave with our second son. It was a HUGE adjustment going from having my active real estate business and being surrounded by friends and family, to feeling pretty darn isolated at home with two little ones in a new place. Eventually I made a friend down the street, and that first Spring I invited her family to join ours for an Easter Egg hunt in our backyard; collectively we had 5 kids. This past spring, just 3 short years later, we continued our annual Easter Egg Hunt, and I couldn't help but tear up as it hit me what an amazing community we have built around our family - this year we hosted 11 families with a combined 29 kids! (5 families brought deviled eggs ??) As military spouses, this sense of community is our anchor, especially when we find ourselves in new locations or when our partners are on extended deployments. Employers can play a crucial role in fostering this sense of belonging by creating opportunities for military spouses to connect within the workplace.
