The Importance of Patient-Centered Communication in Cancer Care ? Quality care varies among stakeholders: All cancer care stakeholders, including patients, have different views on what defines "quality care." Aligning care with patient values is crucial. ? Communication enhances care: Clear, effective communication improves the quality of care (QOC) and builds trust between patients and doctors. It empowers patients, especially when they understand their treatment and next steps. ? Balanced information sharing is key: Providing the right amount of information is essential—too much can overwhelm patients, while too little can increase anxiety. ? Shared decision-making (SDM): Involving patients in treatment decisions improves satisfaction and trust, though it may not always boost self-efficacy (confidence in managing their health). ? Emotional support matters: Addressing emotional needs and uncertainties enhances the patient experience and strengthens bonds with #healthcare providers. ? Technology’s limited role: Access to electronic medical records (EMRs) helps engagement but doesn’t significantly impact outcomes. ? Mestastop: Innovating Metastasis Care Focusing on metastasis: Mestastop’s research targets #cancercell spread, developing tools and therapies to stop metastasis, a major challenge in #cancertreatment. ? Integrating PCC: Mestastop’s approach aligns with patient-centered care by tailoring treatments to individual needs, ensuring both #scientific #innovation and #patient well-being. ? Conclusion Patient-centered communication is essential for improving #cancercare quality, trust, and treatment satisfaction. Mestastop’s focus on stopping #metastasis with patient-centered approaches aims to improve both #survival outcomes and #care experiences.

At Fraser Health, we’re setting new standards in leveraging technology to enhance patient care and ensure sustainable operations amid growing demand. Here are some of our latest innovations: The Digital Twin is a virtual model of Fraser Health that uses a powerful algorithm to simulate and optimize our system for better health outcomes for patient groups. The Virtual Hospitalist model at Eagle Ridge Hospital allows physicians working remotely to review patient charts, order treatments and document insights, which helps physicians and care teams in the hospital to focus on admitting new patients and providing hands on care. An AI-powered program is used by medical staff during colonoscopies to detect small, hard-to-see polyps. This system, trained on thousands of images, highlights suspicious lesions, allowing them to be removed, which significantly reduces future colorectal cancer risk. We have exciting projects ahead. For cancer patients, regularly logging symptoms is critical to health outcomes—and even survival. So why is it so hard to get them to do it? ?? ?? ?? One common reason: prospective memory failure. This is when we intend to do something, but forget. It happens in everyday life, and also in patient symptom and treatment management—where logging symptoms can be critical to patient outcomes. Richard Mathera recently walked us through how his team leveraged behavioral insights to rethink and redesign a digital patient monitoring (DPM) platform for a major pharma partner. The goal? Motivate patients with cancer to regularly log their symptoms. In addition to the insights he presented, here are some of the burning audience questions that he answered: ?How does novelty drive engagement? ?How might we collect more data while avoiding cognitive overload? ?What are the most common barriers to behavior change in healthcare? ?How do you draw the line between behavioral science and user research? Check out the full video and case study linked in the comment section below. And if your team is facing a critical challenge, get in touch—we’d love to help: ?? [email protected]

How Our ACOs Support Breast Cancer Screening Initiatives: Data-Driven Decisions: We provide actionable insights and reports to empower physicians in identifying high-risk patients and ensuring timely screenings. Patient Education Campaigns: Consistent education efforts aimed at encouraging patients to prioritize their health, including resources on when and how to schedule a screening. Collaborative Care: Our ACOs emphasize teamwork between primary care providers, radiologists, and oncologists to streamline the process, from screening to diagnosis. ?? Tips to Improve Screening Rates: Reminders & Alerts: Implement automated reminders through your EHRs to notify both patients and healthcare teams about upcoming or overdue screenings. Patient Testimonials: Share stories of patients whose early detection changed their lives—this can motivate others to act.
