Female students deserve more. The 2024 Female Students and STEM Report, co-published by YouScience and Ford Next Generation Learning (Ford NGL), highlights a critical issue: despite having the aptitude for STEM careers, many female students lack interest due to natural biases and a lack of representation and encouragement. We must break down these barriers and empower the next generation of female STEM leaders. Join us in shaping a brighter future for STEM: https://bit.ly/3LeZMC2? Additionally, our collaboration with Cyndi Tetro and Women Tech Council unveils startling insights into career exposure gaps in Utah compared to national data. Discover the findings that are driving change: https://bit.ly/4cQAS7I #STEMeducation #YouScience #WomenInSTEM #CareerExposureGap

Celebrating Women in Engineering Day! Despite the progress, there's still a significant gender gap in STEM education. Only 35% of females choose to study STEM subjects post-GCSE, and this drops to 25% at university level. How can we change this? Showcasing female role models in STEM industries and having more female lecturers in universities can encourage girls to consider a career in STEM. -?????????Include more women in school career days. -?????????Employ more female lecturers in universities. Let's celebrate some inspirational women whose work has shaped our world: Margaret Hamilton - Pioneering software engineer for the Apollo moon landing; ?? Dr. Swati Mohan - Led the Guidance and Controls Operations on NASA's Mars 2020 mission; ?? Hedy Lamarr - Inventor of frequency-hopping technology (a method of?transmitting radio signals by rapidly changing the carrier frequency among many frequencies), which underpins modern wireless communication, and paved the way for the foundation for today’s phones, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS; ?? Ada Lovelace - Wrote the first algorithm, believed to be the first computer program, for Babbage’s Analytical Engine (generally considered the first ever computer design); ?? Emily Warren Roebling - Took over the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge, first field engineer in the USA; ?? Yvonne Brill - Inventor of satellite thruster technology. ?? Tag an inspirational woman in engineering! #WomenInSTEM #WomenInEngineering #T15International #StartYourJourney #WeRecruitInspiringTeachers #EducationRecruitment

?? STEM Week: The Event I Owed Myself to Write About ?? Confession time: This happened a few months back, and I finally got around to writing about it. They say good things take time, right? (Or maybe I was just too busy basking in the afterglow of a successful event!) ?? During STEM Week, I hosted an online STEM talk for my class and invited three of my amazing friends—each a trailblazer in their own right: ? A medical doctor who gave us a behind-the-scenes peek into the operating theater. (Spoiler: it’s not like Grey’s Anatomy, but just as fascinating!) ? An architect who walked us through the magic of turning blueprints into buildings. ? The PhD student/content creator shared their dual role, inspiring students with how scientific research can be creatively communicated to the world. It was a blast watching my students light up with curiosity and bombard the speakers with questions. They didn’t just learn about jobs; they saw real people turning their passions into careers. From operating rooms to design studios and lab-to-lens storytelling, STEM came alive that day. Why am I sharing this now? Because it’s a reminder to all of us: inspiration has no expiry date. Organizing that talk may have happened months ago, but the impact? That lasts a lifetime—both for my students and for me. So here’s to making STEM more relatable, exciting, and downright awesome for the next generation. ?? (And to me, for finally sharing this story!) #TeachingPartnerPathway #TeachforMalaysia

While we frequently celebrate Utah hitting the top of "Best of" lists - did you know it's among the ??worst ranked?? states in the US for women’s equality? One reason is missed opportunities in preparing female students for high-wage STEM careers. A new YouScience report, published in partnership with Cydni Tetro and her team at Women Tech Council, analyzed data from over 21K Utah female students. Findings show strong aptitudes for STEM careers, but a lack of exposure, representation, and resources. The report suggests solutions like aptitude-powered education and female-centered mentorship. This is a must-read for educators, the tech community and business leaders. ?? Download the report https://lnkd.in/gHaqYCBA
