15 years of community meals is a wonderful thing. This March, we gathered with over 350 of our neighbors for a local meal, handcrafted bowls, exciting raffles, and groovy music. We celebrated what is possible when we connect as a community. Watch The Video: https://lnkd.in/gq-577ig... View The Photos: https://lnkd.in/gU8mwMyY Couldn't make it to Horizon? You can still support with a gift! https://tinyurl.com/giftNH Thank you for joining us! In addition to spending a moment with all of you, together we raised nearly $70,000 for our life-affirming programs; keeping food on the table, and a roof overhead. We cannot wait to see you again next year, and all through the summer as we celebrate the 35th year of North Helpline!

Are you part of a community? I ask this knowing that many people aren't. I never knew anything about being a part of a community until I moved to my neighborhood 7 years ago BEFORE a community was formed/built around me. Right now, where I live is extremely expensive. Whether you're buying or renting a place, it's more expensive than any neighborhood in the city. People ask: "Why do you live there if it's so expensive, there aren't any stores, there are 4 schools stuck in the middle with unbearable traffic...." The reason? Community. The people around me. My neighbors, my shul, my routine, seeing people I love every day walking or driving around. Gatherings. Music. BBQ's. Torah. Kids having friends. Mom's and Dad's being able to socialize without a commute. That is SO much more valuable to me than an extra bedroom or a backyard. When my shul ran a CauseMatch campaign, we all came together as one to reach a goal we didn't think we could ever reach. Now? We built a shul, we have a place, and we can spread joy, and expand our community reach. Communities have so much growth potential, and lack of funding shouldn't get in the way. Try this too. Reach out to me for more information. #fundraising #jewish #community #nonprofit

Something happens to the shuls in my neighborhood when they hit the "where are we going" mark... My neighborhood has a lot of shuls. Like many other neighborhoods, it starts with one, and then the big bang happens, then more people move in, and then you have a bunch of options. I like it. Not every shul is for everyone. Let's not pretend like that's a thing. The beginning stage of a shul is magical. A few guys get together, start in a house, create the environment, and people start to notice it and start showing up. It's nice and peaceful until you need to decide where you're going. And then......politics... It's a necessary evil. Meetings, visions, arguments, logistics....it's all a nasty part of growth...but it has to happen. Eventually, things work out (they do...they DO...don't give up). But here's where shuls turn into something more. When they run their first peer-to-peer campaign. The competitive nature. The shared interest. The goal. The desired outcome. The TOGETHERNESS. You'll raise a lot of money running a CauseMatch campaign, sure... But you'll get so much more out of it. A real community. I'm not making this up - every shul in our neighborhood ran a causematch and this happened every time. Try it. #fundraising #nonprofit #jewish

We spoke with Cathedral Kitchen, one of our NPO partners, to get to know them better. "Cathedral Kitchen is like a home away from home," a "one-stop place" for "whatever services you need." Carrie Kitchen-Santiago, Cathedral Kitchen's executive director, shares "the goal of the meal program is not just to help people with an immediate need, which is food insecurity, but it's also to help connect people to services that they need in order to stabilize their lives." #nonprofitpartnerspotlight?#SMMmealNPOrecipient?

We've noticed a trend at GoGenerosity When businesses share about their charity partners' and the impact their own and their customers' generosity has, they get an uplift in pay-it-forward donations. Here's why sharing your impact matters: 1. It thanks your customers - Gratitude goes a long way. By publicly acknowledging the customers who pay-it-forward and showing them the result of their donations, you make them feel appreciated. 2. Inspires more generosity - Actions speak louder than words. Sharing real stories of impact encourages others to join in and pay-it-forward next time they shop with you. 3. It cements you in the community. Business is more than just transactions; it's about community. By sharing your social good impact you become a clear part of the community, caring about the people in it.

Over the last 24 hours I've received a bunch of emails from #nonprofits which start out along the lines of "We know how disappointed you are with the election results. So are we. But we can't give up the fight/stop advocating for..." These have come from organizations of all sizes. A question: Should I assume a) These charities know their audience really well and know that a majority voted a certain way? Or b) The political beliefs of the staff at these organizations leans a certain way and they're projecting their disappointment onto their readers? Serious question. Not looking to get into politics but to understand the thought process behind the emails I'm receiving. (And to be clear, the emails come from all types of organizations, not necessarily those who trend a certain political way.)
