Young people get most of their news from social media. It is crucial we focus on media literacy efforts to blunt growing disinformation efforts coming from MAGAs, Russian bots, etc as the election draws near. Today: A very useful 2 min. reminder on disinformation from Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd & Swansea University ‘If we only get given a binary choice, our options are reduced before we know they exist’ … ‘what if both sides views are misleading?’ This really resonates, not just within modern political voting systems but the extent that binary thinking is embedded and reverberates across society. Box of Broadcasts (BoB) at Learning on Screen plays a huge role in supporting students in all discipline’s to ask better question’s and seek new and varied sources of information. Our broadcast archive opens up a richer dialogue and encourages broader thinking. It contextualises historical and political events and presents new perspective’s for students to consider. Here are a couple of best practices to help advocates and policymakers get it right. ?? Proportional ?? RCV ?? for multi-winner ?? offices ?? Proportional RCV means every community or ideological group gets representation that corresponds with its share of the population – this is what we should want in our democracy! ?? Electing 3-5 seats at a time is the best way to maximize the benefits. ?? That’s the “sweet spot” for multi-winner elections. If you’re only electing two seats, you won’t get the full benefits of proportional representation. ?? Allow candidates to form slates, like “Springfielders for Safe Streets.” And list those slates on the ballot if local law allows. Those labels are helpful for voters in nonpartisan races. https://lnkd.in/eQYu4NcD
