Newsrooms, journalists, and other trusted sources can set expectations with their communities on the timing of election results. Counting each vote takes time, and the election won’t be over until each ballot is counted. Many races may not be called on Election Night, and official results can take days or weeks to be confirmed. This is an expected, expectable part of the process of how democracy works. And it’s a lag where bad faith, misinformation, and opportunism can create confusion, stoke distrust, and animate hate. Trusted communicators and local, accurate reporting can interrupt these forces, help people cast their ballots, and know the results when they're officially reported. The best of their work also helps us understand our individual and collective stakes in the results. That work doesn’t end in November: news and information providers play a crucial role in holding public officials accountable and fostering continued civic engagement beyond the election cycle. If you’re looking for trusted communicators in NC, we invite you to learn more about the great work our grant partners are doing across the state and visit their websites: https://lnkd.in/gAhhs5YP What organizations do you want to spotlight this election cycle? At The Script Lab, we believe in the power of our words to inspire change and drive action. As we prepare for Election Day, for this #CiteBlackWomenSunday, we are reminded by the words of Stacey Abrams that the impact of our words can resonate far beyond the page: "We must use words to uplift and include. We can use our words to fight back against oppression and hate. But we must also channel our words into action." Whether we’re writing manuscripts that share research and advocate for public health or voting to influence the policies that shape our communities, our voices matter. ????? Just as we use our power to publish in challenging norms and pushing for progress, voting amplifies our beliefs into meaningful change. As we head toward Election Day, let's commit to using both our pens and our ballots. Your voice can create ripples that uplift communities and build a future rooted in equity and justice. ?????? #Vote #CiteBlackWomenSunday #ManuscriptWriting #TransformWordsIntoAction #PublicHealth #AcademicPublishing

State-level political commentary often functions as an echo chamber. As red pockets emerge in traditionally blue states like Illinois, New York, and Virginia, it becomes crucial to analyze and compare the local political dynamics, pressing issues, and recent events driving these shifts to build a meaningful national narrative. How will these local challenges shape federal outcomes? What factors are energizing voters at the grassroots level? And what predictions, if any, can be drawn from these local trends for the top of the ticket?

?? A thousand times this: "We need to listen to people on the frontlines of defending our democracy and ask them what’s keeping them up at night." Thank you to Democracy Fund - Tom Glaisyer + Liz Ruedy - for the incredibly comprehensive report. We know there is chaos coming, but how we prepare for the unexpected and expected(!) will matter greatly. "The challenge we’re dealing with in 2024 is just how much uncertainty there is. While we are already aware of a long list of chaos factors, there are likely more that we haven’t imagined. Many of the chaos factors are unprecedented, and we just don’t know what impact they might have." Bottom line: Beware the Dragon Kings, but keep an eye on the Paper Tigers, too! https://lnkd.in/efJXFNQc
