Introducing Meta-Label Learning (MeLa), a system where the model independently infers global labels from available tasks before undergoing pre-training. ?? The brainchild of researchers at the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) and UCL, MeLa was developed in line with efforts to unlock the benefits of pre-training for few-shot learning (FSL). “FSL empowers artificial intelligence models to leverage their existing knowledge to learn new concepts with just a few examples,” explained Ruohan Wang, I2R Senior Scientist and first author of the study. With MeLa proving its merit during experiments and new insights into the mechanics of pre-training, Wang and collaborators are now focusing on foundation models. Thrilled to share that I've successfully completed the Artificial Intelligence for All course offered by the Indo Universal Collaboration for Engineering Education (IUCEE). This 8-week program, featuring expert-led webinars and hands-on assignments, has equipped me with a solid foundation in AI concepts and applications. Today, I had the opportunity to take a photo with Professor Erick Sperandio (I was pleasantly surprised to learn of his connection to Luna Longo ????? ) and Professor Thiago Pagano (who studied ai and issues around accessibility, diversity, and equity), who delivered an inspiring presentation on the use of Artificial Intelligence and research at university today. They covered a range of topics, from AI’s role in sustainability—like diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and explainability—to specific technical applications, such as edge computing, embedded systems, AI-driven extreme weather predictions, and quantum computing with Python (no JavaScript, unfortunately!) (Hiromi Okuyama, Ian Barkin, Don Phin, and Sam Yankelevitch —does LinkedIn Learning have a suggestion box? I’d love to suggest Mr. Erick’s name! And Maíra Oliveira how about brainstorming book ideas with him about Ai?) Professor Sperandio, is an Associate Professor of AI at the Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI, a member of the Global Centre for Clean Air Research (GCARE), and a Sustainability Fellow at the University of Surrey, UK. He is also an Associate Professor at Centro Universitário SENAI CIMATEC, with extensive experience in AI, Computational Modeling, and HPC, including a PhD in Environmental Engineering with a focus on Atmospheric Computational Modeling. The panel will also include Professors Gabriela Botelho (Sanitary and Environmental Engineering) and Camila da Silva (Computer Engineering), along with Professors Tássio Vale and Thiago Pagano (Computer Engineering) from UFRB. This week, we are thrilled to highlight the outstanding work of ESR06?Selim Firat Yilmaz, a dedicated PhD candidate at Imperial College London. With two new papers that were accepted very recently, Selim has considerably contributed to sustainable wireless communications. ??His research aligns perfectly with Greenedge ITN’s commitment to sustainability. By optimizing communication systems, we contribute to resource efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and a greener future. ??? ? ??Distributed Deep Joint Source-Channel Coding with Decoder-Only Side Information?? (https://lnkd.in/dRYUFMDw)? In this paper, Selim addresses the challenge of low-latency image transmission over noisy wireless channels. Specifically, he focuses on scenarios where correlated side information is available only at the receiver (the Wyner-Ziv scenario). Leveraging a data-driven joint source-channel coding approach, Selim proposes a novel neural network architecture that incorporates decoder-only side information at multiple stages. The results demonstrate remarkable performance improvements across various quality measures, especially at low channel signal-to-noise ratios and small bandwidth ratios. ??High Perceptual Quality Wireless Image Delivery with Denoising Diffusion Models?? In this second paper, Selim explores image transmission over noisy wireless channels using deep learning-based joint source-channel coding (DeepJSCC) and a denoising diffusion probabilistic model at the receiver. They focus on the perception distortion trade-off in practical finite block lengths, introducing a novel scheme based on range-null space decomposition. The #NobelPrizeCommittee is right on track. The #NobelPrize is awarded to those who, during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind. #ML or #DL are technologies which might be used for the benefit of Physical Sciences or other disciplines, so conferring it to people who used #DeepLearning for the upliftment and progress in #Physics or #Chemistry domains sounds good. When a breakthrough #Tech like #MachineLearning or better to say Deep Learning emerges, it affects all walks of life, so it is understandable that it will in its own way influence other disciplines. It is cool that the #RoyalSwedishAcademyOfSciences recognized the above fact and took a progressive stance. We haven't seen such an all-influencing Tech being introduced before during our lifetime, perhaps the Steam Engine or the Wheel would have explained the phenomena.

An AI-ready workforce is crucial for the United States to leverage the full potential of artificial intelligence in scientific discovery, economic growth, and national defense. In 2023, the White House released an Executive Order aimed at developing and using AI safely, securely, and reliably. The order calls for the DOE and NSF to establish a pilot program to train 500 new researchers by 2025, capable of meeting the increasing demand for AI talent.
