This report has 26 recommendations to make Australia’s regional, rural and remote road network safer and more resilient to severe weather events. I tabled it in Parliament today in my role as Chair of the Standing Committee on Regional Development, Infrastructure and Transport. The Federal Labor Government has also committed to doubling the Roads to Recovery funding ($500 million to $1 billion per year) and increasing the Black Spot funding from $110 million to $150 million per year.

#Planning Given this evening's RTE Investigates - 'The Planning Trap' - it is interesting to see what happens in NI re. Community Involvement in planning re. Development Management (DM) and plan-making/forward planning (FP). The NI DoE Practice Note 02 - Statement of Community Involvement- is here: https://lnkd.in/d22A-H56 In NI, Appeals may only be made by, or on behalf of, the person who made the planning application (the First Party).?There is no "Third Party" right of appeal and this means that objectors or other parties who may have an interest in the proposal cannot make an appeal if they are unhappy about the decision. N.B. Planning powers were returned to local councils in NI in April 2015. + Northern Ireland’s Planning Aid service - known as Community Places (est. 1984) is here: https://lnkd.in/enir_MMX #empowerment #commongood #communities #Aarhus #participation

We need new housing units now – we also need complete neighborhoods with good public services, transit options, critical and sustainable infrastructure, and where nobody is left behind or without a roof over their head. A housing plan requires a corresponding plan for the enabling infrastructure. It simply can’t be either or if life is to get better for Canadians. Watch my colleague, Mathieu Bélanger, articulate to the Finance Committee the need for a reliable and predictable fiscal framework to ensure success.
Today, Policy and Public Affairs Executive Director Mathieu Bélanger presented to the Standing Committee on Finance on housing affordability and FCM’s call for a new Municipal Growth Framework to support housing affordability and related infrastructure needs in municipalities across the country. “Growing the housing supply to restore affordability without thinking about the infrastructure that sustains it won't lead us to success.” Communities in Canada are more than housing units. Complete neighbourhoods contain necessary infrastructure and critical public services. Municipalities need a reliable and predictable fiscal framework to ensure success.

ICYMI: Important insights from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities underscore the critical need for policies supporting community housing growth to also prioritize investments in foundational infrastructure like roads, water, wastewater, and bridges. And in a world where government resources are increasingly strapped, municipalities should be encouraged to explore alternative financing options, including P3s, to deliver essential infrastructure and provide greater long-term value for the people in their communities. #infrastructurefinance #policymaking ??

Housing is the largest single cost of living issue facing the people of NSW. Today was a huge day - the NSW Government revealed its roadmap for housing supply in New South Wales with the release of the new 5-year housing targets for 43 Local Government Areas in Greater Sydney, Central Coast, Hunter and Illawarra regions, and one target for regional NSW. We continue to support councils to achieve the targets through financial incentives and the Accelerated Infrastructure Fund. The roadmap will help address the State’s housing crisis and deliver on our target of 377,000 homes over 5 years as part of the National Housing Accord, which kicks off from 1 July. These targets give all levels of government, industry and the construction sector clear indicators about where the new well-located homes should go – close to public transport, services and amenities. For more information visit https://bit.ly/44YL23x
Councils helping to deliver new homes will receive incentives to help build infrastructure like green space, libraries, and footpaths - part of the NSW Government’s plan to build better homes and better communities ???? Find out more at https://ow.ly/aPX750RZhU8 ??
