Why USDA Conservation Programs Matter ?? (from our friends at Mad Agriculture). USDA conservation programs are critical for advancing regenerative agriculture across the U.S. By supporting practices like no-till farming, pollinator habitats, and water management, these programs help farmers protect natural resources while enhancing the long-term resilience of their land. However, the demand for conservation funding exceeds availability, with only 30-35% of farmer applications being accepted. It’s clear—there is a need to protect and expand these essential programs in the upcoming #FarmBill. Learn more about the farmers who have been impacted by conservation funding across the country. These nine stories produced by Mad Agriculture along with key data visualizations show the impact of USDA programs and how they’re shaping the future of regenerative farming ?? https://lnkd.in/g2_aYbdx #FarmBill #CultivatingConservation

The battle against weeds never ends ?? Herbicide-resistant weeds continue to challenge soil conservation practices like no-till farming. A multi-year study at Kansas State University Western Kansas Research-Extension Centers tested a similar strategic tillage approach that led to increased wheat yields, while improving weed control. Implementing any form of reduced tillage might not achieve maximum yield potential, but the long-term soil health benefits allow for more sustainable farming and environmental payoffs as weeds become harder to suppress. https://lnkd.in/gd3rTA3g

Valuable assets as the food story moves forward in N.Ireland ??? looking at diversity of rural landscape and sustainable management from our local farming practices, how farmers can contribute to be part of the solution ??
?? The National Sheep Association recently published a report exploring the sustainability of the UK’s sheep farming sector. The report highlights the positive impact that grazing practices can have on the environment, including habitat creation and improved biodiversity. “With climate change resulting in more extreme weather conditions, including the increasing risk of extensive wildfires, the value of a diverse, sensitively managed, resilient grazed landscape should not be ignored.” Read the full report here:?https://lnkd.in/erFBT5nV ?? For more research into grazing livestock, keep an eye out for our upcoming report which explores the role of grazing animals in the food systems of the future. #GrazingLivestock #Biodiversity #Sustainability

Animal grazing Making grazing more sustainable, whether this is on farmed land or within #nature, is critical to: 1. producing quality, nutrient dense food 2. mitigating #biodiversity loss 3. supporting Biodiversity Net Gain within a variety of seral habitats 4. the fight against climate change 5. improving #soilhealth …for a start. Removing grazing animals completely from the landscape is not sensible. There needs to be an intelligent system of management in place to provide the balance. Consider the science. Regenerative agriculture is very similar to organic with a few exceptions, the main one being that they avoid independent third party certification. The Soil Association avoided it for decades, then adopted it in the late 1980s and by 1990 the organic market took off as consumer confidence solidified
Our own Alex Cullen will be chairing a Sustainable Foods webinar to discuss some all-important questions about #regenerative agriculture and sustainable farming practices?? ??Thursday 25th April, 2pm She'll be joined by Thomas Gent (regenerative farmer), Roger Saul (Mulberry England & Sharpham Park), and Duncan Williamson (Forum for the Future). ??Registration is free - sign up now: https://lnkd.in/eu-F3uD9 #Organic #NetZero #Sustainability #Regen #Farming

??Enhancing Agricultural Resilience: The Role of Anti-Hail Nets in Greenhouse Farming?? As we continue to navigate the intricate dynamics of modern agriculture, the imperative for innovative solutions to mitigate weather-related risks remains paramount. Hailstorms, in particular, pose a significant threat to crop productivity, often resulting in substantial economic losses for farmers worldwide. These specialized nets serve as a formidable barrier against hailstones, safeguarding crops from physical damage while allowing essential elements like sunlight, air, and water to permeate, thus maintaining optimal growing conditions. Key Benefits: ?? Reduced Crop Losses: By minimizing the impact of hailstorms, anti-hail nets help farmers mitigate crop losses and ensure a more reliable harvest. ?? Enhanced Crop Resilience: The use of anti-hail nets fortifies crop resilience, enabling farmers to withstand unpredictable weather patterns with greater confidence. ?? Environmental Sustainability: Anti-hail nets promote sustainable agriculture by reducing the need for chemical pesticides and fostering eco-friendly farming practices. ?? Custom Solutions for Varied Environments: Whether in greenhouse facilities, polyhouses, or open fields, anti-hail nets offer versatile protection tailored to diverse agricultural settings. Moreover, in mountainous regions where hailstorms are more prevalent and damaging, the deployment of anti-hail nets assumes even greater significance, empowering farmers to safeguard their livelihoods and ensure food security amidst challenging conditions. What's the benefit of using a greenhouse? 1. The greenhouses can shield crops from harsh weather conditions, allowing you to grow plants earlier in the spring and continue production later into the fall, or even year-round ?? 2. By controlling factors like temperature and pests, you can maximize your crop yield and get more production per square foot of space compared to traditional outdoor farming~ #greenhouse #agricultural #indoorfarming #HydroponicSystem #ClimateControlSystem #GlassGreenhouse
