#opentowork Marketplace or 3P means third party seller. A lot of Walmart E-commerce is now made up of these third party sellers. This enables Walmart.com to have a much larger assortment without having to store the goods in a warehouse. A MARKETPLACE seller is responsible to upload items through the Walmart's portal (SELLER CENTER), optimize SEO on the product display page, manage inventory, negotiate pricing with the Walmart account manager, and ship items to the customer. There are standards that the marketplace seller must have when using these major platforms. There is a lot of competition. A lot of sellers are selling the same product. The sellers all compete to win whats called a buybox. A buybox winner will have its item first on the product page. If you are a seller that isn't winning the buybox, you lose out on a lot of sales. A lot of these third party companies are hiring managers to manage the relationship with Walmart. I have been working at Walmart e-commerce corporate for the past 7 years. I've worked with over 100k strategic & key Marketplace sellers. My department handled seller escalations from Walmart's account managers (both domestic and international) . When the Walmart account manager didn't know how to resolve a technical issue concerning their seller, it would get escalated to my team to work on a solve. Is the seller having issues using SELLER CENTER (the Walmart portal)? Are item updates not processing? Is the marketplace seller having issues with SEO, search or content quality scores? Why isn't the seller winning the buybox? What if a competing seller is price gouging? What if a competing seller isn't authorized to sell the product? Is the seller getting a lot of cancellation?
