What are dark stores? Dark stores are warehouses or retail outlets that are used exclusively for online shopping and are not open to the public. These are small/big rooms where Blinkit, Zepto etc store merchandise and deliver it within 10 minutes ??. There should be at least one store within a 10-minute motorbike distance from your house. Identifying the items to keep in stock for the locality is what leads to profitability.

Store Closures. With the recent announcement from Big Lots that they'd be closing over 300 locations, we dove into the potential impact and there were some very interesting takeaways. 1?? Not all Rightsizing Efforts are Equal - Yes, closing stores is not the ideal thing, but when done properly it can reduce costs without a massive impact on reach. Closing locations that aren't reaching the ideal audience or are likely cannibalizing other locations create ideal targets to limit the impact on performance. 2?? Visit Surges are Coming. The liquidation sales drive huge visit numbers and these peaks give an indication of the potential many of these locations had. Plus an opportunity to see who the audience most up for the grabs might be.... 3?? The Audiences are Going Somewhere. Cross visitation gives a good indication of the likely beneficiaries, but the ability to effectively reach these audiences now can play a huge role in bringing those visits over for nearby competitors. 4?? Ceiling on Value. We've talked about this quite a bit.... but there is a ceiling on the number of locations the value players can have. Watch out for the rise of the middle. From technology changes to behavior change, I rarely go to malls myself. I get all I need via mail and I simply need much less today.
