"Today, on Teachers' Day, I pay tribute to all dedicated educators. However, as a teacher myself, I'm disheartened by the lack of respect and support for teachers within our education system. When I started my career, I was driven by a passion to inspire and educate. Unfortunately, teaching has become increasingly challenging due to: 1. Misuse of authority and power. 2. Baseless accusations. 3. Politicization of education. 4. Harassment. I urge authorities to: 1. Foster a peaceful working environment. 2. Uphold professional ethics. 3. Avoid exploiting students for personal agendas. 4. Promote teacher welfare and respect. Let's protect the future of our nation by safeguarding the dignity and well-being of educators.

Teacher Shortage Crisis Did you know that a significant number of public schools are facing staffing challenges in 2024? About 37% of public schools currently have at least one teaching position vacant, while 45% have non-teaching positions waiting to be filled. According to EdWeek, there are a staggering 36,500 teacher vacancies, along with 55,000 other vacant positions, and a concerning 270,000 underqualified positions across the country. These shortages highlight the importance of addressing staffing needs to ensure a quality education for all students. Having 270,000 people working with children who are underqualified limits the success of our students.??

This is not unique to MMSD. Most districts in Dane County, at least, share this growing population of emergency license educators. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes, it catches employees off guard. Teaching can be hard for someone who didn't get training on classroom management, human development, and/or the expectations required when working with children. Data suggests that 40% of educators have left teaching 6 years in the classroom. And yet, students and families are better off with consistency, stability, and experienced educators. What can we do to attract and keep highly trained, skills, and knowledgeable educators in our public schools? It is the same as in most any other business. Educators want to be seen, heard, and valued. They need the resources to do the job we ask of them. They need support from their bosses and the community they serve. We can turn it around. Get engaged in your local community, talk to your legislators about your concerns. If not you, who?

When I worked on this dataset, I was surprised by the rise in departure in Asheville City schools. However, I remembered that, in NC, data is offset when reported, and much of the attrition we are seeing in teachers from COVID has just recently been reported. While I was able to aggregate data to make this heatmap in #Tableau, there is even more data sourced in the State of the Teaching Profession dashboard from DPI: https://lnkd.in/e-krgbrx
Teacher departure rates (the percentage of teachers who leave teaching in North Carolina or change districts) in K-12 traditional public school districts for the 2022-23 school year ranged from 6% in Camden County Schools to 31% in Asheville City Schools. #NCEd

I have interacted with many teachers and educators in the last two decades. And their responses on the issues they are facing are :- There is "less discipline", "less interest among students to learn", "we can't scold" ........etc.. In some parts of the world we see a trend of teachers leaving their professions .... In our own country we have a few lakhs of teacher vacancies.... Being an educator supporting the teachers and pre-service student teachers I am pained to see these situations. Why do you think many teachers are leaving their profession in some parts of the world??? Why are we not getting enough teachers to fill up the teacher vacancy?
