The increase of NCDs in sub-Saharan Africa, leading to over 37% of all deaths, deserves a revised approach that empowers patients to participate in their health management, evidence-based intervention resulting from local research, and resilient health systems. At Uweya Health Consult, we are working with partners to address just this problem.
Over 2 decades ago, sub-Saharan Africa experienced an epidemiological transition where Non-Communicable diseases (#NCDs) like #diabetes, #cancer, and cardiovascular diseases caused most deaths (24% in 2000 to 37% in 2019)-WHO. Yet, there is still a gap in #empowering NCD patients with knowledge and tools for collaborative disease management. Furthermore, contextualized evidence from local #research is not adequate for better management. And health systems are yet to improve to cater to this disease burden. Uweya Health Consult partners with organizations, government agencies, universities, and patients' associations to enhance health through patient empowerment projects, research especially NCDs, and health systems through consultancy and training! If working on NCDs and patient empowerment, reach out to us for collaboration to enhance health in the global south.
