On August 15 I sent out another "Doing the Work" email, on behalf of Cooperative Alliance for Seacoast Transportation (COAST), on how we are "Making the Invisible Thread Visible". COAST is a common thread that connects the people and communities around the Greater Seacoast region. However, to many that common thread is largely invisible. Public transit is often perceived as a municipal function and its existence somewhat automatic. However, in New Hampshire, six of the eight transit systems, including COAST, are nonprofit organizations (or operate under one) and must fundraise to cover their budgets each year. For 40 years, COAST has been quietly going about the business of providing transit services. But?quiet invisibility has its limits. As COAST plans for the future, we recognize the need to make the invisible visible. In order to build a more diverse network of support, we must increase people’s understanding about the importance and impact of COAST. To that end,?we have made a commitment to telling our story to a broader audience, more strategically and consistently. We started simply by investing one of our most important resources—time. From there, we’ve built momentum with small, repeated steps that we’ve expanded on in new areas.
