A new community-driven movement, the 'Sweep, Sweep' campaign, is inspiring individuals across the United States to take action for a cleaner and healthier planet, starting in their own neighborhoods. Co-created by Eva Almeida, Audrey Star, SK Cummings, and Sk Almeida, the initiative emphasizes that individual responsibility plays a crucial role in safeguarding the environment. 'If we want to save our planet, we need to start with our cities. Every effort counts,' explained Audrey Star, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry and a passionate advocate for sustainability. Through volunteer clean-up events, educational workshops, and a robust social media presence, the 'Sweep, Sweep' campaign encourages citizens to unite and preserve the beauty and well-being of their local surroundings. The initiative aims to build stronger, more connected communities while promoting urban cleanliness and environmental preservation. The Nature Conservancy, other environmental and community-based organizations are working to empower the communities most often impacted by climate change to fund and implement solutions on their terms. Since 2019, a core team of conservation, environmental justice and community advocacy organizations—convened by TNC—has come together with the goal of securing additional funding for addressing the causes and impacts of climate change, with an intentional focus on underserved people of color and low-income people previously underserved by funding programs. Exciting news! The Denver Regional Council of Governments has been awarded $199.7M from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This Climate Pollution Reduction Grant will centralize rebates, provide energy advising, and create job opportunities for 3.3 million Coloradans. In alignment with the Biden Administration's Justice40 Initiative, 47% of these funds are dedicated to low-income and disadvantaged communities. As a leader in climate action, Denver is primed to collaborate with our neighboring communities to expand our nation-leading climate programs. We are excited to support DRCOG's initiative to facilitate the transition from gas to all-electric appliances for more people in the Denver metro area. By reducing gas usage and energy efficiency in buildings, we aim to reduce pollution significantly. We are honored to have played a role in developing this program. This grant will streamline the process of making buildings energy-efficient and all-electric, making sustainable choices more accessible and affordable for our community. This past weekend one of our key suppliers posted this event they took part in upping their game in our minds as the truly sustainable brand that we love to have in our stock as a premier brand. In the early 1960s, America awakened to the perils of pollution. Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring" and the 1969 Cuyahoga River fire exposed the environmental crisis. Yet, protecting natural resources wasn't a national priority and activism was scarce. Enter Senator Gaylord Nelson. Elected in 1962, he envisioned #EarthDay as a grassroots movement, inspired by anti-Vietnam War protests. With Denis Hayes as coordinator, Earth Day April 22, 1970 mobilized millions nationwide, igniting environmental consciousness. The inaugural Earth Day catalyzed legislative action. Throughout the 1970s, landmark laws like the #CleanAirAct and the establishment of the Environmental Protection Agency #EPA reshaped environmental policy.
