Last night, I had the pleasure of co-hosting a lawyer networking event with Jessica Medina. I've worked at three law firms in Phoenix and was overjoyed to have women from each firm attend. Another joy was seeing women who had been opposing counsel on cases or heard of each other in professional circles meet in person for the first time. From first-year associates to partners, solo practitioners to Big Law attorneys, and everything in between. They shared the joys and challenges of practicing law. Their joys include: ?? Intellectual stimulation from complex cases with multiple moving parts ?? A positive working relationship with their law partner ?? Autonomy and the ability to choose their own cases and clients ?? The ability to set their own schedule ?? Interpersonal connection with clients Their challenges include: ?? Balancing being a Big Law partner with raising toddlers ?? Having enough support from junior attorneys, paralegals, and staff ?? For those who dislike litigation, avoiding work that involves conflict ?? Working moms who worry they are working less than their male counterparts with stay-at-home wives ?? Navigating personal challenges while maintaining a demanding case load Do any of these joys or challenges resonate with you? If so, that's the beauty of connection. As women lawyers, we often experience similar things, and connecting helps us see we're all in this together. #connection #womenlawyers #community
