True transformation is so much bigger than the assumption change is as easy as just thinking differently. If I had to name the most noteworthy experiences that have had a meaningful impact on my approach to transformational leadership in the last year, it would have to be?Archaeology of the Self: Fostering Racial Literacy through Inner Work with Dr. Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz and Dr. Angel Acosta, and?A Healing and Restoration Retreat for leaders with burnout with Dr. Angel Acosta and the Acosta Institute Staff at the The Garrison Institute. These immersive experiences in a community-minded, educational setting on the stunning grounds became a safe space to explore important leadership values and helped me to process the harms of dominant caste supremacy culture, thoughtfully reflect on my purpose-driven work, and resuscitate a sense of hope. Unlike other settings, the torch I bear was embraced as meaningful. I didn't repel my new colleagues who were also on their learning journey, I attracted feedback that the truth telling was liberating. I felt the same as I witnessed and participated in workshops and activities. No one tried to save me, or talk me out of authentic emotions—I got to process in peace. No one centered their aversion to real talk by diagnosing anyone else with "imposter syndrome." That's not what happens there. I had the experience of being witnessed, appreciated, and respected as I learned more about how my torch is paving the way for my life work and as I worked hard to get back to love and hope and challenge my own Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer complex in a supportive setting. What I find the most compelling about Dr. Acosta's work are the frameworks that focus on actionable strategies for systemic change—it's a far cry from other environments I've been in that aim to be trauma-informed but are overly reliant on intellectualizing harmful, real-time forms of dominant caste supremacy culture, including Atrocious Cultural Events (ACE) as the world watches, as a form of normalized avoidance. As outlined in the event description, 'activities in this particular summit aim to support attendees to transform hope into practical applications, therefore contributing to significant societal shifts.' Leaders, join the radical generosity experiment by providing scholarships to this important work for your staff; it's an incredible educational opportunity with palpable outcomes that makes the world a better place.
Radical Generosity Experiment I sometimes practice being generous in a variety ways. With the Acosta Institute we are hosting a summit in July at the serene grounds of The Garrison Institute to explore the theme Hope and Healing in Practice with Minna Salami, Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz, Amy Elizabeth Fox, Maria Tan and Drisana (Dru) McDaniel. I want to pay for a couple of people to attend and join us for this experience. I will cover your meals and lodging. To be considered for this organic raffle, simply reply to this post. Sharing about how you practice hope or healing/or just share why this resonates for you right now. Feel free to invite/tag others. We'll announce winners next week Please review information on the summit landing page below to understand location and context. You'll have to cover your travel. We'll handle the rest! Sending love! Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the UK Black Business Week | UK Black Business Show at Excel London for the first time, and it was everything I hoped for and more. After years of circumstances preventing me from attending, finally making it this time felt like a breakthrough moment. The journey to get there wasn’t easy. I had been up between 3-5 a.m. for several days in a row, and honestly, I was shattered. But I knew the importance of making it to this event. It was a moment where I had to practice what I preach—Think Big. Take Action. Keep Pushing. So, I pushed through and showed up, and I’m so glad I did! The scale of the event was truly inspiring—four stages, a multitude of speakers, panels, and exhibitors. A huge shoutout to Dr. Raphael Sofoluke the Founder, for doing an amazing job bringing so many incredible people together under one roof. It’s a testament to the power of vision. The impact of events like these can't be overstated. I was heartened by how many people I ran into that I had previously only connected with via social media. This really highlighted for me the power of platforms like LinkedIn and Instagram in expanding our networks. Was great to personally meet Lillian Ogbogoh Dr Yvette Ankrah MBE Sayo Martin Babatunde Joy Aboderin (Founder) Potential U It was so great to, albeit briefly, catch up with Renée Davis Bayile Adeoti FRSA Grace Asante-Ntoni Kadi Wilson Tahlia Gray Claudine Reid MBE I’ll definitely be back next year, but this time with a pre-planned strategy on how best to navigate the day and arrive earlier so I can fit more in. The event was so big, I missed connecting with a lot of people simply because I didn’t know they were there! It’s easy to get swept up in the scale of it all. The biggest takeaway for me, came from Smade, the visionary behind Afronation, who dropped a powerful truth: “People will deny your greatness.” His words hit home. We can’t let other people's doubts (or badmind) stop us from moving forward. We need to keep pushing for our visions, even when the path seems unclear, and others can’t yet see the greatness we’re capable of or refuse to acknowledge it. This message ties directly into my own mantra: Think Big. Take Action. Keep Pushing. Whether in business or life, greatness requires resilience, vision, and the ability to move ahead regardless of external noise. Here’s to bold visions and the courage to keep pushing ahead, no matter what! #BusinessGrowth #Networking #ThinkBig #KeepPushing #BusinessCommunity #UKBBS #UKBBS24

Every decision you make has consequences - and sometimes it’s hard to anticipate what they will be. I was at a church leaders conference last week. If you’ve never been to something like this, a lot of it is like a business conference with workshops, sessions, and networking. But there is at least one thing special about church conferences: group singing. This is one of my favorite things about gathering with other Christians, whether on Sunday mornings or at special events. But this post isn’t about that. Previous years at this conference the seating has been organized in rows: “theater style.” This year, someone made the decision to have everyone sit at 8 person round tables. There is ample time for conversation, and this arrangement helps to facilitate that better than rows. However, my guess is that there was a consequence of this decision that no one anticipated. Typically, the person leading the singing portion of the event asks everyone to stand while we sing. When we are all seated in rows, that’s an easy request to comply with. However, seated at round tables, everyone in the room, all 380 of us, have to scoot our chairs back from the table in order to stand. That means every time we sang together, there was 30 seconds of rubber chair pad rubbing against concrete floor noise reverberating throughout the auditorium. “Let’s tune our hearts to the presence of God and remind one another of his goodness toward us...” SSSQQUUUUURRRNNNNNMMPPHH..... I still think it was worth it to have us sit at tables. It was a much more communal experience. But I bet no one even thought of how obnoxious the chair squeaking would be when they made that decision. (Image credit stackchairs4less.com)
