Try this instead: 1. Let them know what the attention getter is, and how you plan on using it. They should also know what to do when it's used. 2. Use the attention grabbing signal to signify that you are ready to speak. Turn their voices off before you turn yours on. 3. Don't *wait* for them to get quiet. Immediately begin positively narrating those that are meeting the expectation. 4. Assign a conseqence to any students falling short of the expectation. 5. For every 1 consequence, positively narrate 3. 6. If 3 consequences are given, reset and start from step 2. Consistently apply these steps until students respect the signal. The Coblentz Society is hosting a virtual mentoring panel discussion of what it is like to work in different industrial, academic, and government areas. The event will take place via Zoom on Thursday, 25 April at 12:00 PM (EST). Panel members will offer views on what it is like to work in their field and answer questions from the audience. The panelists’ bios will be provided to participants prior to the event, so participants may review their backgrounds and formulate questions.
