Today was a big day! It’s been one year since I joined the community at the Humphrey School. I’m struck by how the wisdom of Dr. Nisha Botchwey’s words on my first day served as my North Star…”Take care of your team.” I aim to do this on a daily basis, humbled by their commitment, grace, humor, and expertise. And so grateful to be in this heart-centered, people-first space. When I was a diplomat, I would often ask myself whether a policy or activity would be in service to the American public. At the Humphrey School, our strategic plan places student success as the school’s top priority. Now my question is whether a policy or action is in service to our students. If I don’t know, I get curious and seek out their perspectives. I have much to learn, and also am so proud of what we are doing. As a faculty member shared with me in my first week, it’s a big role. It is that! And being surrounded by bright students, faculty, staff, and alumni committed to grappling with some gnarly local and global challenges makes it all worthwhile. (On a much lighter note, throughout the day, I also kept hearing the song “one week” by the Barenaked Ladies in my head…but I digress.) #hhhproud #workanniversary #peoplecentered #studentsuccess #dreambig #northstar #grateful #nofilter

?? Meet Emily, a passionate science teacher who embarked on a transformative Summer Project journey with us! ??? "I would 100% recommend Summer Projects. I gained more than I thought I would. I found it really interesting," she shares. ?? Emily dove into researching Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) policies and parental engagement strategies, contributing to improvements in schools. "Our work has made it easier for schools to quickly find gaps and make changes that will massively improve their own policies and practices," she reflects. ??? "Sometimes schools can feel pretty isolated. Our work highlighted how crucial the connection between head teachers, staff, and other schools is." Beyond policy impact, Emily discovered ways to engage with parents proactively, "I've established things I can do as a classroom teacher to better support my pupils." ? Advice to new Pepperdine grads: Creatively and intentionally develop purpose, service, and leadership in your work. It's possible to be a self-centered worker in the nonprofit sector, just as much as it's possible to be an accountant or marketing exec living out selfless service. Don't let assumptions about your industry or seniority limit your intentional cultivation and application of core values and character. What would you add? ???? ??
It's graduation season and we're excited to celebrate our seniors as they join the ranks of our esteemed alumni. As they prepare for their next steps, what advice would you share with them?

This is exactly a week late but didn't want to go another day without appreciating the hard work of the amazing team at To Be Like Me. My teammates, District Admin, and I (Tami Kirby Tonya Parma Jeffrey Gonzales Shirlett Warren) were able to volunteer with this amazing group and spend the day working with 4th graders from Richardson ISD. Grateful to be working at Insperity and the opportunities it allows for me to be involved in my community! #insperity #communityfirst

I am celebrating one month in my new role at Robert Gordon University! ?? Transitioning from being a Student Union President to the Student Engagement and Partnership Officer has felt like coming home. Although I am familiar with the RGU community, stepping into this new role has brought fresh challenges and learning opportunities. What has made all the difference? The incredible people at RGU—supportive, kind, and always willing to help. Here are five key takeaways from my first month: 1. Purpose matters: My role aligns perfectly with my passion for making an impact, and it is why I feel like I have blended into it nicely. 2. Embrace learning: Even with my experience, there is always more to learn. I am thankful to my amazing managers and colleagues who indulge my many questions and provide helpful guidance all the time. 3. Overcome fear: Initially, I was nervous, but I have learned that the fear of failing is failing. This is why I have quickly let go of that fear and allow myself to learn organically without being too worried about getting it right the first time. 4. Leverage relationships: I have found myself reaching out to people whom I have worked with on my previous role at the University. My cordial relationship with them has helped me to reach out more easily whenever I needed their support. 5. Say Yes: In this time and age where the phrase "I am not paid enough for this" is thrown around loosely, I have found that it is important to distinguish yourself as a reliable and supportive colleague in the workplace who is interested in the overall growth of the organization and of the people around them. I have said Yes to other student experience enhancing projects and volunteered my time by joining the staff Race Equality Action Group. It’s been an amazing first month, and I am excited for what’s to come! #newrole #opportunities #onemonth #workniversary #partnership #studentpartnership #studentengagement
