I’ve walked a long path as a retailer in my growing side hustle in the last few years. I’ve had a bricks and mortar shop, closed it and gone solely online. I sell wholesale, do private white label and have a nurtured a fabulous community of customers. My background in both PR and Marketing has helped, as has my Photography HND and general business knowledge. But nothing prepared me for the world of retail! There’s nothing more valuable I’ve found than finding other small businesses who are walking the same path as me, and learning from their successes and more importantly their failures. So I wanted to start sharing a few tips on the things I’ve learnt about email marketing, social media, how to sell without feeling like you’re selling, creating great content with photography techniques, finding apps to integrate with your website that support growth, getting PR coverage, and importantly trying to create a great life/work a balance. Are you in the flower-holding stage of your business yet? If you're not there yet, the day will come when— You'll hold on to the stalk of a flower with one hand. With the other hand, you'll pull the petals. And you'll slowly repeat the words, "To niche". "To niche not." (Can you tell that I made that up? 'Flower-holding stage,' I mean.) Everyone, including your gardener, would have told you the same thing: "Niching down is one of the best ways to scale your business." But you'll pull at the petals nonetheless. You'll want a sign. And guess what? The last petal would fall on 'To niche.' Do you know why? In Flowerworld, they?are taught?that niching down is?good?for: - Building expertise. - Standing out from the nicheless crowd. - Better targeted marketing. - And lots more. (Don't ask me how I know. ?? ) That said, listen to your gardener and your flowers. LOL.

How I rescued my lost sword from the freezing forest river will give you the greatest marketing perspective that will help you gain the upper hand in your niche. ?? I was just exploring new territory with my antique sword, and everything was going as smoothly as butter. ?? Until I had to cross the freezing river on a narrow, slippery tree, as this was the only way to keep exploring. The first time I was totally fine, but the second time, oh boy. On the way back, I slipped and fell, and the water was so deep that I dove to my hair. I quickly jumped out of the river, but my sword was missing. I had dropped it in the water. ??? I instantly jumped back in, and for 10 minutes straight, I searched for it in the freezing water with no success. I blamed the forest, my shoes, and the climate, but until I started to blame myself, I didn't find my sword. See, until we start seeing our problems, including marketing problems, as ours and ours alone, we will never solve them. It's when the grapes are going from liiiiiittle green babies (called fruit set) to being full, ripening juice-producing grapes. They don't just jump from pea sized green buds to big ol' purple grapes- they go through a process and need time to adapt to the environment around them to complete the process- weather, vineyard conditions, and other exterior factors. ?? BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. The roots have to DIG DEEP to get to the nutrients that are CRUCIAL to this growth. All the sun, water, pruning, love and care from the outside mean NOTHING if the vines themSELVES aren't also working toward that success.
