This is going out to my admissions and recruitment colleagues. I just had a stroke... but not sure if it's a stroke of genius yet. If you've had issues "breaking" through to your leads and prospects that you've collected Fairs, what about having an application fair? Before dismissing this as a stunt, hear me out. At a grad fair we spend 30 seconds or a minute sometimes speaking with a student to get them to fill out a RFI card. We can speak with 60, 70, 80, or more students in a 3 or 4 hour period. But. we come away with leads that may have bad emails or we can't read their writing (if its a paper RFI), or they provide inaccurate information. At an application fair, colleges bring a couple computers or tablets, students sign in at a school table, and fill out as much of the application they can... obviously they can't submit LoRs or a SoP right there, but we capture more than leads. In return, the application fee is waived. So my question is, what's better; 100 leads where 10 students open an email and one student clicks resulting on 0 apps entered? Or, 10 applications started with verified email and from students who are serious? This literally just popped into my head, so I have no logistics or details. What are your thoughts? #HigherEd #GradApps #PhD #Masters #HigherEdRecruitment #FYP #HigherEdAdmissions

Do not Study? Transitioning from school to college is never easy. Especially if you have to move to a whole new city. You are bombarded with questions, self-doubt and a whole lot of anxiety. It's easier to preach otherwise but almost everyone falls under peer pressure. FOMO lurks every corner. I remember getting into SRCC and things moving way too fast and out of control. A word of caution for the juniors: Choose your people wisely. They can make or break you. I was filling up and applying to so many college societies as everyone said that 'Your CV is You.' My studies were back seated. I did not have time for my books. Sounds ironic but this was the case with most of my peers. I learnt the hard way that all these things are secondary and in fact, academics is the first section in our CV. This process did cause a lot of anxiety but a tough year at college transforms a person tremendously. It taught me the importance of prioritising and time management. Like already said, 'Your CV is You' and not vice-versa. Use these opportunities to find your true calling. Not everything needs your attention and not everyone will be happy with you. But you know what? It's OK! Feel free to connect for a 1:1 session on how to make the most of your college life: https://lnkd.in/de9AhG8G

Creating an expanded resume is another essential task for students applying to UT Austin. The expanded resume is an extensive list of a student's experiences that helps the admissions office understand them better as an applicant. Unlike a typical resume, UT expects these resumes to be three to four pages or more, allowing students to describe their activities, roles, and specific experiences in detail. Students can showcase their strengths, interests, and potential contributions to the university community by presenting a comprehensive view of their accomplishments. https://hubs.ly/Q02BmN_h0

Here’s the truth about whether you should include your GPA on your resume… If you're just starting out in your career and don’t have much professional experience yet, a strong GPA (typically 3.5 or above) can help show that you're dedicated and hardworking. It’s a way to demonstrate your commitment and ability to succeed academically. ?? But there’s more: In certain fields, like finance or consulting, GPA is often highly valued. In those industries, showcasing your academic success can actually give you an edge over the competition. ???? On the other hand, once you’ve gained a few years of experience, your work accomplishments and skills should take center stage. At that point, employers care much more about what you’ve done on the job than what your GPA was in college. ???? And if your GPA is below 3.0? It might not add much value, especially if you’ve excelled in hands-on projects or work experience. Instead, focus on your practical achievements that show your real potential. ???? The key is to highlight what sets you apart. If your GPA is something you’re proud of, definitely include it. If not, let your skills, experience, and accomplishments do the talking instead. ???? What do you think? Have you included or omitted your GPA on your resume? Let us know in the comments!??
