I am shedding light on the vital yet often overlooked aspect of mental hygiene when individuals re-enter society from prison. Transitioning from an institutionalized environment to the overwhelming array of choices and responsibilities can be incredibly challenging. It's crucial to remember that serving time for a crime should not equate to forfeiting dignity and humanity. Living in a hyper-vigilant environment like prison can have lasting effects on one's mental well-being, akin to an overworked electric circuit. Adjusting back to society without proper support can be daunting, with the burden of rebuilding one's life falling solely on the individual. Advocating for justice-impacted individuals is a cause close to my heart, having experienced the struggles firsthand since my release in 2019. The journey of job hunting post-release has only added to the exhaustion. Understanding and empathy are key when engaging with those who have gone through the justice system. Walking in our shoes is far from easy. Let's strive to create a more compassionate and supportive environment for all individuals seeking to reintegrate into society. #CriminalJusticeReform #ReentrySupport #MentalHealthAwareness #EmpathyAndUnderstanding

Tennessee Behavioral Health Resources (TNBHR)???? We’re excited to announce a new email group created specifically for mental health and substance abuse professionals in Tennessee and nearby states! Trey and I started this to streamline communication, as we’ve all been juggling multiple Messenger chats and group texts. We wanted to provide a more efficient solution for those of us who tend to check email more often throughout the day. This email group will primarily serve three purposes: 1. To inform each other about our roles, the services we provide, and where we’re located. 2. To assist with finding resources for clients, including placement support for complex cases. 3. To keep everyone informed about upcoming events in the behavioral health field. We hope this group will be a valuable resource for everyone, offering easy access to helpful information without overwhelming your inbox. Once added, you can email the entire group by sending a message to [email protected].

This is why providing mental health resources for returning citizens is critical, especially in their search for second chance employment. Strong mental health plays a vital role in rehabilitation, overall well-being, and securing a stable job. For those returning citizens who have mental health challenges, it can be a barrier to finding employment. Join us as we raise awareness about mental health and its connection to second chance hiring. Together, let's encourage employers to embrace second chance practices and empower people to find the support and opportunities they deserve. Been looking into mental healthcare “deserts” – places where mental healthcare is simply not available – and they are absolutely everywhere: ??????Over 50% of US counties have no psychiatrists ??????Over 75% of US counties have a shortage of any type of mental health professional ??????Over 55% of psychologists are not taking any new clients This seems to be a huge reason why two-thirds of insured Americans with diagnosed mental health conditions are not receiving care.?Yes, more people are seeking care and that’s a good sign that mental healthcare stigma is subsiding, but it makes little difference if Americans seeking treatment can’t find care. You’ve probably experienced this yourself when seeking therapy care for yourself or a loved one.?It’s hard to find the therapist who is a good personal fit, who is taking new clients right now, at times that work for you, who takes your insurance, etc. The data shows us that this problem isn’t the exception, it’s the rule.?And the consequences of undertreated mental illnesses are dire.?So how do we address the desert problem? There have been a lot of ideas shared about this; adding a few more: - Promote Mental Health Careers: If you lead a team, classroom, congregation, or other group of young people, encourage them to explore a mental health career — or explore it for yourself. https://lnkd.in/eQtUmFtZ - Expand Access: Ask your local leaders what they are doing to support and fund mental healthcare access. Write to them today. https://lnkd.in/eexNRj5X - Embrace Telehealth: While not a complete solution, telehealth can improve care in the most underserved areas. Learn to use it and help loved ones to do the same. https://telehealth.hhs.gov - Support Therapists: Mental healthcare professionals including therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and nurses serve their communities tirelessly. Let's reduce the red tape and administrative burdens they face, and develop tech that works around them. #MentalHealth #Healthcare #ClinicianShortage #MentalHealthDeserts

Mental health professionals invest years of education, training, and dedication to support others, yet the offered pay often doesn’t reflect this value. A salary of ?15,000-?25,000 for 10 years of experience is not just unfair—it’s unacceptable. It’s time to demand better. Fair pay isn’t just about money; it’s about respecting the expertise and contributions of those who help shape healthier minds and societies. Let’s stand together, raise our voices, and advocate for the change we deserve. Advocating for Fair Pay in Mental Health: It’s shocking that institutions like “Regent Education and Research Foundation Group of Institutions” offer ?15,000–?25,000 per month for 10 years of experience. This undervalues the dedication, expertise, and impact of mental health professionals. We must stand together to demand fair compensation for our work. Let’s raise our voices and push for the respect and pay we deserve. Fellow counsellors, join me in advocating for change. Together, we can make a difference. #FairPay #MentalHealthProfessionals #AdvocacyForChange
