Never get cocky or complacent, because a reputation built over years can crumble in minutes.? ? Stage count for our US industry is up about 20x over the last decade and a half. For 60 years, the industry operated at about 25,000 stages a year. For the last few years stage count has leveled off at more than 500,000/year.? ? There are just about as many minutes in a year as stages, meaning that a stage is completed about every minute. And average stage duration has been remarkably constant over the years - about 110 minutes. With about 220 US frac crews for 2023, that means an average crew is pumping about 50% of all time. And that’s how I close my math loops.? ? But in other aspects a stage is not a stage anymore: we cram a lot more into it. Higher rates and more volume; higher proppant loadings and proppant throughput; higher cluster count and associated lateral feet stimulated; and more recently, simul- and trimulfracs that double or triple the well stage count as compared to the pumping stage count.? ?
