It is easy to be angry, bitter, harsh, or uncaring… Can you be kind? Can you correct without criticism? In middle school I had an ego about IQ and “special classes.” At one point I was a leader with and edge or a chip (young NCO). At some point I learned the value of empathy & EQ. IQ can get you to a point, but EQ brings the whole team to the summit. #strongertogether

When the executive leadership team prioritizes toughness over kindness in their assessment of their management team, they perpetuate a toxic work environment. By associating kindness with weakness, they diminish the importance of empathy and compassion in leadership. This leads to pressures aimed at molding their direct reports into replicas of themselves, sustaining a cycle of authoritarian leadership. Consequently, this undermines organizational culture and limits the potential for diverse leadership styles and perspectives. Furthermore, grooming a generation of leaders who mimic their behavior fails to nurture a workforce capable of adapting to change and driving innovation. Ultimately, this misguided approach impedes both organizational advancement and the personal growth and development of their employees.

Speak it Gary V!! Kindness doesn't just mean doing "nice" things - it also comes in the form of clear communication. When people are clear on what is expected of them, they can perform to your high standards and be successful. Kindness is also about serving people well, by engaging in feedforward, in addition to feedback. The difference? One is proactive (asking them what they need to be successful), and the other is reactive (talking about past behaviour that can't be changed). And finally, kindness is caring enough about someone's success that you are willing to embark on a learning journey with them that explores behaviours that are getting in the way of their success, and brainstorming together (not telling them what to do), a go forward alternative. #kindness #realleadership #cleariskind #coachingforsuccess
