Dear Newlab Community, We are overwhelmed and honored by the interest in attending New Climate Futures. Though we opened up more areas of Newlab in order to accommodate more people, we are now fully at capacity and cannot issue any more tickets. We apologize for the inconvenience but must put the safety of our guests and members first. We also ask for patience if you are trying to contact Newlab, we are receiving around 20 emails a day about NCF and we are a lean team. If you weren't able to snag a ticket this year, be sure to subscribe to our newsletter so you can be the first for NCF 2025! https://lnkd.in/ekFgfaDs

?? Key Learnings from our Workshop on Engaging Stakeholders in Climate Assemblies!? ? Thank you to all who participated in our latest workshop led by Ines Omann, Dr. who is authoring a KNOCA Briefing on the different forms of involvement of stakeholders and their roles in climate assemblies.? ? Here are four key learnings:? ?? ?????? Stakeholders can bring a lot to assemblies, from their knowledge and perspectives to amplification and implementation. But it requires careful design.? ? ???? The selection of stakeholders is critical. Commissioners and organisers need to be clear what they want from stakeholder engagement. From this, criteria for selection can be developed. No one solution fits all.? ? ?? ???Whichever ways stakeholders are involved, ensure citizens are empowered and not disempowered.? ? ?????? Stakeholders need support and training to engage with citizens (and vice versa). Some of this can be done beforehand. Some of it requires interactive methods in the assembly to build trust and respect.? ? As always we appreciate your active participation in our workshops and a special thank you to the presenters Mirijam Mock?Christoph Streissler, Simone Zippel, Erwan Dagorne and Miriam De Pagter. ?? The recording and presentation are now available from our website. Find link in comments! #ClimateAssembly #StakeholderEngagement #ClimateGovernance #DelibWave ?

#ClimateChange is one of the most pressing challenges of our time, affecting every aspect of our lives and the environment. To understand and respond to the complex and uncertain effects of climate change, we need reliable and accessible information at different scales, from global to local. Check out The Climate Risk and Resilience Portal developed by the CCRDS at Argonne National Laboratory Often data and models that are used to project future climate scenarios are often too coarse or abstract to capture the specific conditions and vulnerabilities of different regions, sectors, and communities. Global impact assessments may not account for the diverse socio-economic and cultural factors that shape the adaptive capacity and resilience of different groups of people. This is why down-scaled tools that scale for individuals, to micro/meso-scale institutions are essential to gain insights into climate risk, impacts, and vulnerabilities and can provide more relevant and accurate information for decision makers and stakeholders at various levels, from individuals to communities to governments. This requires not only developing and improving the down-scaled tools, but also enhancing the communication, education, and engagement of the users and building partnerships to ensure access .

Climate and other citizens’ assemblies are designed to give space to a diverse group of citizens to learn, deliberate and come to collective recommendations. They are designed to protect citizens from the direct influence of stakeholders. But that does not mean stakeholders are absent from assemblies. In most designs, stakeholders are part of advisory bodies and may provide evidence to the assembly. Should their roles go beyond governance and evidence? Are there good reasons to integrate stakeholders into other aspects of assembly practice? If so, how? This online workshop with Ines Omann, Dr., Mirjam de Pagter, Christoph Streissler and Simone Zippel on June 5th presents the findings from a draft KNOCA - Knowledge Network on Climate Assemblies Briefing on the different forms of involvement of stakeholders and their roles in climate assemblies. #CitizensAssembly

Had an incredible experience attending the GARP 2024 Climate and Nature Risk Symposium. The speakers and panelists were truly remarkable. A big thank you to #GARP and Jo Paisley for organising such a fantastic event. Here are a few key takeaways from Day 1: - Climate is just one part of nature-related risks. Focusing solely on climate impacts without considering nature could lead to significant underestimation of potential outcomes. -Core challenges for identification and assessment of nature-related risks are data quality, lack of knowledge, and complexity of the matter. - Companies must embrace uncertainty and work with the data they have at hand. Luckily, there is a lot of support from the scientific community, regulators, and the #TNFD themselves. What were some of your key takeaways from the event? #climatechange #naturerisks #sustainability

It aims to drive transformation within the evidence system by generating trustworthy evidence that is radically more timely, relevant, and affordable. Find out more. Spotlight: What Works Climate Solutions Alive is working with others to build collaborative living evidence partnerships for climate solutions. This includes understanding what climate solutions have worked, under what conditions, for whom, and why. Our starting point is to engage with decision-makers and other evidence users to identify their evidence needs. To this end, we are convening a What Works Climate Solutions Network to provide a forum for exchange between policymakers, research funders and other users of evidence. If you’d like to find out more or you would like to join the network, please get in touch [email protected]

? Did you know that you cannot reach net zero without carbon removal? If yes, please continue. ? Do you currently have a carbon removal strategy included in your company's net zero plan? If yes, please continue. ? Do you know how many tonnes of carbon removal you need to buy and by what date to reach net zero? It’s likely a lot more than you expect! ?? Sean Doyle, CEO at British Airways - recently said on a panel at the Farnborough International Sustainable Skies Summit, that he expects BA will likely need to remove approximately 25% of their carbon emissions to reach their net zero target. ?? If you're serious about reaching net zero, speak to CUR8 about building your carbon removal offtake. Thanks to Radhika Moolgavkar, JD and the Nori team for having us on the Carbon Removal Newsroom. #carbonremoval
