From the inception of the CLARISSA programme, we knew a fixed management style would not work for the programme, due to the complex and sensitive nature of researching the worst forms of child labour. Additionally, in the early days of the programme, we faced a number of obstacles including the COVID-19 lockdowns and political upheaval. So how did we reflect on the programme, measure its impact, and ensure we were making effective decisions? ?? Our latest report, and accompanying blog and video essay, review the key principles behind the participatory adaptive management (PAM) practices we implemented, and explore how these practices helped us to react and navigate these external shocks and challenges, as well as the complexities of the research. The key ways that the PAM approach assisted our research include: ??Deep storytelling – Going beyond the general principles of adaptive management to fully contextualise the programme. ??Conceptual engagement – Embracing the complexities and contradictions inherent in addressing challenges. ??Practical orientation – Creating opportunities to continue learning to enhance programme outcomes. ??Integrated Multi-Layer Approach – Implementing adaptive management across various levels simultaneously. - To explore these principles in more depth: ??
