In 2013, we were approached to support multiple Architects and Fire Engineers in tackling the challenge of implementing state-of-the-art smoke and fire protection strategies in Battersea Power Station, without compromising the character or historic value of the iconic site. With such a sensitive brief, and multiple stakeholders involved we opted for a custom solution to suit the site's needs. The project required a bespoke redesign of the FireMaster?Concertina? fire curtains to suit the unique elements of Battersea Power Station, ensuring the fire curtains operated as expected and were deployed efficiently. Our innovative solution & custom fire curtain systems ensure not only that the building's legacy is protected, but also the occupants for the foreseeable future. While only 20% of apartment buildings were supposedly out of compliance in 2024, most buildings are going to have to deal with upgrades to boilers, lighting or envelope by 2030/40. This day recognizes the 38th state to join the U.S.?Some interesting facts about ‘The Centennial State’ include: ·??????Colorado entered statehood in 1876,?exactly 100 years after the nation’s independence. ·??????The?Royal Gorge Bridge above the Arkansas River was the world’s highest suspension bridge for over 70 years. The bridge has a deck height of 955’, measured from the deck to the surface of the river below. ·??????According to the Colorado Department of?Transportation, the Eisenhower Tunnel on Interstate 70 is?one of the highest vehicular tunnels in the world. ·??????In the Western U.S., a mountain peak with an?elevation?of at least 14,000’ is known as a “fourteener” or “14er”. There are?58 such fourteeners in Colorado – the most of any state?(Alaska?has 22,?California?has 12, and?Washington?has 1.) The 4th Street Bridge in Pueblo, Colorado was designed by FIGG for the Colorado Department of Transportation. This concrete segmental bridge was built from above over 28 sets of active heavy rail tracks in the Pueblo Rail Yard while maintaining yard operations. I have said it before and I will say it again. I continue to be amazed at the shortsightedness I see on almost a daily basis. For the past two years, at any given time there are 30 plus cranes up in HRM. All are helping build MURBS or Multi-Unit Residential Buildings. Each one of these buildings needs to be clad or covered with something. Let's do some simple math shall we? Let's pretend that we are going to put 6000 square feet of BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaics) on the South Elevation of these buildings instead of what you normally use. A conservative estimate and real time proof shows us that this 6000 square feet will generate 95,000 KW of power per year in Halifax. Now, I want you to multiply that x 30. Government: "We are going to need all hands on deck to reach our 2030 climate goals". It is one thing for municipal or provincial governments to say they do not want to tell private developers what to do. But what amazes me is that these same governments continue to design their OWN buildings without employing this type of innovation. AzSpecd Solutions Inc.
