Am talking with a foundation about: False positive grants: where you make a grant that you shouldn't (have). False negative grants: where you declined an opportunity that you should have funded. Most funders' success is UTTERLY dependent on finding & funding the right orgs, yet in my exp, most funders pay really inadequate attention to getting good at making these decisions. Clearly these are like Type 1 & Type 2 errors respectively. Marc Maxmeister talked once about Type 0 errors - in which the fnd is playing the wrong game entirely and those certainly happen too.

Exciting news for social workers and those who serve the unhoused or at risk population: the 2024 CoC funding round is now open! Please share with your agencies who work to house at risk and unsheltered individuals and families. Creative, new proposals encouraged! This year there is an incredible amount of funding and opportunity to expand care on Long Island, from east Suffolk County to west Nassau County. Housing has been made a major priority of this federal and New York State administration, and although there is still much to be desired, Long Island’s front lines service agencies should not leave anything on the table. Long Island can shelter the unhoused, and this funding can help. I have included the information for new applications below. Please share, and reach out for more information. ? “CoC New Applicants: Projected Funding Available (HUD ARD funding report pending to verify funding rates) Estimated ARD: $14,850,568 Estimated FPRN: $18,000,000 Estimated CoC Bonus: 12% of FPRN or about $2,160,000 Estimated Reallocation: TBD based on voluntary givebacks Local priority for CoC Bonus funds and/or relocation is PSH, as well as projects that propose to serve subpopulations locally identified with significant unmet needs. Persons with Disabilities (PSH) Re-entry Mental health Aging Adults Youth Domestic Violence (DV Bonus) Families with Children PSH, RRH, and TH-RRH projects are eligible for CoC Bonus. PSH that leverages housing and/or healthcare and/or expansion projects are encouraged. Estimated Domestic Violence Bonus: 15% of PPRN or about $2,700,000 RRH and TH-RRH projects that are specifically to serve households that are actively fleeing domestic violence are eligible for DV Bonus.
