This supervisory position will be assigned to the first ever Unit of the Chief Economist at the Department of Labor, which collects and analyzes economic data and works on special projects such as conducting an empirical study on the effects of the minimum wage on employment. Delaware March job openings fell by 2,000 from their February level to 30,000 and there were 6,000 fewer job openings than in March 2023. Unemployed workers also declined over-the-month by 300 to 20,000 resulting in 10,000 more job openings than workers looking to fill jobs. Delaware's ratio of job openings to unemployed workers fell over-the-month from 1.6 to 1.5, but ranked second highest among regional states. Maryland had the region's highest ratio with 2.4 job openings per unemployed worker, followed by Pennsylvania at 1.3. New Jersey had the lowest job openings to unemployed ratio at 1.1. The US ratio fell in over-the-month in March from 1.4 to 1.3. Delaware Job Openings comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS). Orange County gained 10,400 jobs in February, 24,100 over the year The unemployment rate in Orange County was 4.2 percent in February 2024, unchanged from a revised 4.2 percent in January 2024, and above the year-ago estimate of 3.4 percent.??This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 5.6 percent for California and 4.2 percent for the nation during the same period.??Between January 2024 and February 2024, total nonfarm employment increased from 1,678,400 to 1,688,800, a gain of 10,400 jobs. Professional and business services added 3,400 jobs, the most of any sector. Administrative and support and waste management and remediation services (up 1,900 jobs) provided the majority of the employment gain. Professional, scientific, and technical services added 1,300 jobs and management of companies and enterprises increased by 200 jobs. Delaware's ratio of unemployed workers to job openings fell over-the-month from 1.3 to 1.2, tying Pennsylvania. Maryland continues to have the highest ratio at 1.6 jobseekers to openings while New Jersey's ratio was the region's lowest at 1.0. The national ratio remained 1.1 for the third consecutive month.
