Boston College. What a beautiful campus to visit! It is a medium-sized private, Jesuit university in Chestnut Hills, MA. You can get there on a commuter train from Boston. While the Jesuit values are a big part of campus life, non-Catholic students say they fit in just fine here. Some fun facts:
-You must apply to one of the four academic divisions on your application: College of Arts and Sciences, Management, Nursing, or Education.
The first year experience includes a 48-hour retreat at the cape with 100 other first years.
-First years can take core courses called "Complex Problem" and "Enduring Question," which fulfill core requirements.
-Professors are accessible, with some even giving out their cell phone number to students.
-They are an R1 research institution, so there are plenty of research opps for undergraduates.
-If you want to apply, give extra attention to the supplemental essay, as it's important. You may want to consider applying Early Decision, as they filled 55% of their class next year with ED applicants. Also note that their only merit aid offered is in the form of 18 full-tuition scholarships. For need aid, they meet 100% of need.
-Traditions include a mud volleyball tournament, a St. Patrick's Day parade, and a big hockey rivalry with BU. They are also on Mile 21 of the Boston Marathon route. Students get the day off on Marathon Monday each year to line the streets and support the runners.
-They have interesting housing: they have modulars that were built on campus to help during a housing crisis, but they are so unique that there now is a waitlist for them, and 40% of freshmen live on the Newton campus, which is a short bus ride away.
This is awesome. Keep up the amazing work, New Jersey Devils Youth Foundation.
