Christmas Markets by rail. Special £2 rail fares offered by Northern. Northern have worked with tourism bosses in #Harrogate and #Skipton to create a £2 rail fare [like the £2 bus fare] for those visiting the Christmas markets. #Barnsley has a Christmas Market at the Glassworks but I am not hearing that there will be a similar promotion. Northern was targeting less crowded markets in towns for the promotion and so perhaps there is still time for officers at Travel South Yorkshire, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority or Barnsley Council to do a deal, as Barnsley's rail station is really close to the #Glassworks. On the heels of the surge pricing controversy at Wendy's , it looks like another surge pricing controversy is brewing at Legoland. Recently, the CEO of their parent company, Merlin, told the Financial Times that “If [an attraction] is in the U.K., it’s August peak holiday season, sunny and a Saturday, you would expect to pay more than if it was a rainy Tuesday in March." Now this is despite the fact that traffic at Merlin attractions have not returned to pre-pandemic levels. Is Legoland setting themselves up for backlash from their customers that will further setback foot traffic into their theme parks? That just might be the case. There's a big difference between pricing being different during peak season vs. prices being different on sunny days. One is predictable well in advance. The other not so much. Also, there's a big difference between customers finding it intuitive to pay less on rainy days as a blanket rule (e.g., flat 10% discount on rainy days) vs. finding it intuitive to be subjected to higher prices that increase dynamically in response to favorable weather conditions. This is another classic case of not working backward from the customer. It's a bit surprising too considering that the chatter about Wendy's has barely subsided. Here's a tip. If a company wants to quickly test whether they measure up to the bar for being customer obsessed, they should review their policies for any that make customers cringe when encountered. If they have policies like these in place, there's still work to be done to meet the bar. You can save money, as online rates are cheaper than paying at the facility, and avoid the hassle of driving around looking for a spot.
