What an intense couple of days of the Women's Health #DesignChallenge! This whole week has been a flurry of intense collaborations, all in the name of driving women's health forward. We are in awe of the talented American and Dutch innovators who are working diligently to ensure that #HealthEquity is achievable for all. It is impossible to share all of our learnings now as we are still digesting everything, but what we have witnessed from our #WomensHealth experts over the last two days is nothing short of inspirational. Working on innovative solutions for women's health can be daunting & demoralizing due to the history of women's health issues being underserved, underfunded, undervalued & underrepresented in but we come away from the design challenge bursting from with hope. ?? Some key takeaways: ???? We need to #collaborate & #connect: global challenges require global solutions - and interdisciplinary ones. Women's health affects everyone, which is why we were blown away by the openness of this group of innovators to learn from each other: founders, researchers, clinicians, policy makers and more. ?? The importance of #DesignThinking: the importance of a human-centered approach that can help improve women's health and well-being cannot be underscored. ?? Stories matter: being vulnerable is difficult so we were in awe of the bravery of the innovators. Women's health affects us all; the men in the room also had very personal stories as fathers, sons, caretakers and loved ones of women who lived in poor health. While facts and figures are necessary, sharing your 'why' is an effective tool for driving change. ???? The Women's Health Design Challenge could not have been made possible without support from our partners: thank you to Jenica (Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H)), Catharine (The Termeer Foundation), Efe (Massachusetts Life Sciences Center), Freddy (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Michelle, Carmen (Health~Holland), Fiona (Bayer) and Stephen Barnes (MIT International Science & Technology Initiatives (MISTI)) for sharing your time and insights with this group of innovators! We are also so thankful to Fiona & Adam for being our gracious hosts at Bayer Co.Lab! Benjamin & Max, this design challenge couldn't have been done without you both & MMID's TUB model. Thank you for all your hard work & unwavering dedication over the past few months to make this design challenge a success! To the innovators: we’re proud of the work you have done & will continue to do to drive women's health forward. We look forward to following up on all the new ideas spun out of the past two days & continuing to work closely with one another because, after all, #Massachusetts and the #Netherlands are natural partners in solving global challenges, together. Very proud of our YES! team working together in such great spirit on solving the equity in women’s health gap ??. Krzysztof (Kris) Wojciechowski we may not have fully covered the legal aspects of our Tech solution yet ?? but you will have to keep working on that Bill of Rights for Women’s Health, Nita Akoh your GenZ energy was incredible and when are you going to run for president (how many health apps are out there actually ???), Arianne van Koppen big big thank you for your organizing and structuring power and let’s meet up soon, Umbereen S. Nehal, MD, MPH, MBA I have so much enjoyed the ‘I am one of the cool kids I know how to do this’ you brought to the group and let’s write that White Paper, Linde Dekker thank you for sharing (say hi to your mom!) and for being my #MobileBrigades partner on this mission, and Diana Torgersen without pulling us back to “but what is our solution! ??” we would have required one or two Design Challenges more ??. This was a wonderful experience not only because I got to know more the women perspective and how many issues they encounter, but also because I created meaningful connection with the US and dutch ecosystem!
