This has the potential to be an absolute game-changer in the attractions marketplace. When it comes to London (and surely it will!), how disruptive will this be to the domestic AND overseas market? Certainly, the Promotion and the Place of the 4 Ps are almost taken care of, and Netflix has been piloting and fine-tuning the experiences around the World over the past few years, learning about the experience and its customers. That leaves Price (and therefore repeatability) as the big unknown. Bundling in the experience with your monthly Netflix fee (a la Amazon Prime) may not be enough to sustain huge landlord fees and operating costs but these disruptors will certainly be disrupting the attractions space very soon. Keep an eye on what's happening in Dallas and Pennsylvania.

It looks like Netflix saw a positive impact on the subscription metrics of customers that visited in-person experiences (like Stranger Things: The Experience). I will be interested to see once these open if Netflix shares any of the data on how visitors to Netflix House engage with the online platform (lower churn, sampling new shows, purchasing ancillary merchandise more often, etc.). What will be very telling is if these venues can generate strong 4-wall profits on their own, or if Netflix will justify their expense through lower blended customer acquisition cost and improved subscription metrics (which drives a majority of the stock price anyways!).

Netflix finally shares viewership stats on its shows and movies from their 250Million+ subscribers. Based on this data, I have watched all shows on T10 and all movies on T10! Netflix has unveiled a first-of-its-kind ‘Engagement Report,’ providing information about a large chunk of its often-secret viewership data. The 18,000-row spreadsheet catalogs data for just about any movie or TV show from January through June of this year. Unlike conventional metrics such as ticket sales or the actual count of viewers, Netflix's spreadsheet quantifies viewership in individual hours watched. However, this approach may not entirely capture the essence of a ‘hit’ in the way Netflix envisions, given the inherent challenge of making comparisons with other media. Not knowing how many others are watching the same thing, especially in the first week, or the fact that watching just the pilot adds to the total hours, remains a difficult challenge to overcome.
