Happy Tuesday and Happy National Public Health Week. Day 2: Today’s daily theme is healthy neighborhoods. Our neighborhoods are the backbone of our communities, influencing our physical, mental and emotional well-being. I have been in this space for the last 18 years and I am amazed at the strides we are making. There’s lot more to do! In public health, our work is multifaceted, encompassing disease prevention, health promotion, policy development, and community engagement to improve the overall well-being of populations. Through research, education, and collaboration, we strive to address health disparities and promote equitable access to healthcare services. UNTIL WE ALL HAVE ACCESS!

Nearly 1.4 million California children, and more than 15 million children nationwide, have or are at increased risk for a chronic health condition and require care and related services of a type or amount beyond that required by children generally. KidsData have also identified that children with special health care needs (CSHCN) are more likely to have multiple ACEs as well. Health disparities are driven by a range of factors, including unequal access to quality healthcare, economic instability, and housing insecurity. Discrimination, education gaps, and limited access to healthy food also contribute to these preventable differences. By addressing the root causes of health disparities through action on the social determinants of health, we can create healthier communities for all. Learn more at Michigan.gov/SDOH.
