Here’s why it was crucial for this project: ???Limited Facial Expressions: The character was designed with no facial expressions, so we relied on body language to show how characters felt. ???Confidence Through Movement: In certain scenes, Lily's posture and other subtle movements serve as a window into her sense of confidence. Just wrapped up an engaging 5-day workshop with the Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning team. I learned so much about making M&E easier to use and transforming data into powerful narratives that tell a story. Today, I had the pleasure of exploring Gender Sensitivity and ways we could make our programs Gender transformative. Gender sensitivity means recognizing and addressing the different needs, preferences, and constraints of individuals based on their gender. This understanding ensures that interventions and evaluations are not reinforcing gender stereotypes or biases and that they address the different experiences of all gender groups. During the capacity sharing, my main focus was on the Washington group of questions to build inclusive programs. We ended the day with actionable and practical ways to improve. I'm excited to apply what I've learned to create more inclusive programs and measure outcomes effectively. #GenderSensitivity #InclusivePrograms #MEL #CapacitySharing

As an Indian Mum in Tech, I've had the privilege of being guided by remarkable male mentors who have helped me navigate my career and achieve my goals. Their unwavering support and encouragement have been instrumental in my journey, and for that, I am profoundly grateful. However, it's also crucial to advocate for creating a more balanced and inclusive industry. What is Girl Up? An initiative by the United Nations Foundation, Girl Up is a forum for uplifting, encouraging and giving girls means to lead. Its aim is to change the way leadership is viewed, giving girls and young leaders of various identities the skills, rights and opportunities. It is dedicated to the idea of equality, providing individuals all over the world a chance to be changemakers. Through Girl Up, they can challenge ideas and get opportunities to talk about gender equality, empowerment, education, health and intersectional feminism amongst many others. It is, in its essence, a movement to bring about social change in communities and societies, through the youth. What is Girl Up ?baadh? ‘????,' a word from the Hindi language, which means unbounded (or boundless), free and unstoppable; is the very essence of Girl Up ?baadh. An initiative of the students of Ambedkar University, Delhi, it gives a voice to ideas often ignored, to be a platform that spreads awareness and educates people on topics ranging from queer awareness, women's health and safety, intersectionality to gender and identity amongst many others. Girl Up ?baadh is about narratives and stories of those who often go unheard. It is about forming a community where everyone can find support, and understanding. Through various campaigns, held both online and offline, the team aims to create a safe space where people can unapologetically be themselves. Views expressed hope to give support, uplift encourage, make people aware, sensitive, and compassionate towards others. The members of Girl Up ?baadh, strive to break down myths and misconceptions about several topics, counter sexist beliefs and also challenge ideas of heteronormativity. Initiatives on #diversity and #inclusion are becoming increasingly prominent, highlighting our community's commitment to growth and equity. A recent event focused on diversity and inclusion highlighted both the progress and the gaps in our dialogue. While the emphasis on these specific topics such as educational diversity and gender equality, was well-intentioned, the lack of broader racial and cultural perspectives among speakers pinpointed significant areas for improvement. It reminded me that while it is crucial to focus on specific issues like gender equality and education due to their potential to drive significant societal change, a discussion of diversity and inclusion must also encompass the wider array of human differences—including race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability, and more—to avoid oversimplification and ensure all community members of ?lesund feel represented. Diversity isn’t just academic qualifications—it encompasses a range of human differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, and yes, educational background. Future discussions should broaden their scope to prevent oversimplification and ensure all community members feel represented. And what about inclusion? Well, inclusion means more than having diverse individuals present, it’s about valuing their contributions and ensuring they have a voice in the dialogue. The lack of diverse representation can diminish the credibility and impact of diversity initiatives. Going forward, it’s essential to include voices from a broad cross-section of our community to truly enrich our discussions and the decisions that arise from them. To enhance our approach to these critical issues, I propose we take proactive steps: 1. Diverse Representation: Include participants from varied racial and cultural backgrounds in future panels to more accurately reflect the diversity of ?lesund. 2. Community Involvement: Engage more segments of our community in planning and executing diversity initiatives, including outreach to organizations and groups with firsthand experience. 3. Continuous Dialogue: Initiate more frequent discussions and workshops that allow for a genuine exchange of ideas and solutions, tailored to our unique demographic landscape. #?lesund’s commitment to diversity and inclusion is commendable, but there is always room for improvement. Addressing these topics requires sensitivity and a commitment to understanding. By ensuring that our initiatives and discussions fully represent our community’s diversity, we can create an environment of true inclusion where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
