A warm ***WELCOME*** to our latest Carlisle Ambassador member BEC Property managers and developers with a difference Whether we’re renovating a building, supporting projects in the community, or helping to regenerate an entire town, we keep sustainable building and a low carbon agenda front of mind. That’s our ‘Golden Thread’ and it runs through everything we do. We combine our knowledge in the arena of sustainable development with a responsible business approach and a drive to build extraordinary communities and deliver valuable local regeneration. By working in partnership with local and national stakeholders to support projects that will bring sustained transformation, we are often able to take on undervalued sites that require strategic and creative thinking to turn them into viable developments. Crucially, we’re not just about construction. We also own and operate business parks and commercial premises across Cumbria, creating spaces that inspire people in their working day and drive growth in organisations from start-ups to major international companies. Championing our local communities At BEC, we use our profits to champion our local communities and deliver lasting social impact – creating a brighter future for everyone. When we’re not investing directly in regeneration and development projects,?we’re putting time, expertise and funding?into initiatives that make a difference in?the heart of communities across Cumbria. We partner with local businesses, clubs and charities to deliver programmes?that offer people?access to support, skills and employment. https://discoverbec.com/

Watch Dallas Smith, Isaiah Robinson, MBA and Tim Kennedy talk about outsider interference from politicians, activists, and even other First Nations trying to infringe on the rights and title of First Nations hosting salmon farms in their waters. Most recently, groups like Wild First and UBCIC are proposing that outside First Nations conduct the oversight of the salmon farming transition in other Nations' territories, which is in itself a colonial overreach. Dallas: "We keep getting cited about the impacts to Fraser River sockeye from aquaculture but Nations can build a pipeline along the side of [the river] and prosper from it (as they should), but for some reason we're not given the benefit of the doubt." When does UNDRIP and self-determination stop applying to First Nations when it comes to resource development and decision-making in their territories? Hot tip: it doesn't. You cannot cherry pick Indigenous rights to suit an activist agenda or political opinion to get votes. Ottawa needs to wake up and stop listening to wealthy, urban activists who are pushing their own lucrative agenda at the cost of First Nations' rights and economic well-being in rural areas. Their current path to a 5-year ban on net-pen salmon aquaculture will kill the industry. Dallas on Canada's 5-year transition plan: "The infrastructure isn't in place... the ability to do closed containment or land-based aquaculture in British Columbia is just a fairytale. As much as I hope the tech eventually gets [there], it doesn't exist right now." #cdnpoli #aquaculture #salmon #bcpoli #fnpoli #reconciliation

Recently, members of the Blues Intergovernmental Council (BIC) convened in Pendleton to discuss forest plan revision, facilitated by Eastern Oregon University professor, Dr. Costie. The BIC is a collaborative effort between the USFS, the Eastern Oregon Counties within the Blue Mountains, and various other federal and state agencies. Currently, the USFS is in the process of developing the forest plans for the three national forests within the Blue Mountains (Malheur, Umatilla, and Wallowa Whitman) and is planning to release a draft assessment of the forest plan to the public in the coming months. REV worked with EOU faculty and BIC to publish a socioeconomic report in 2022 to address the economic conditions specific to communities in the region and actively supports meeting facilitation. #BluesIntergovernmentalCouncil #ForestPlanRevision #EasternOregonUniversity #Collaboration #USFS #BlueMountains #MalheurNationalForest #UmatillaNationalForest #WallowaWhitmanNationalForest #PublicInput #CommunityEngagement #SocioeconomicReport #EconomicDevelopment #MeetingFacilitation #ForestManagement #EnvironmentalPolicy #RegionalPlanning #StakeholderEngagement #PublicPolicy #REVCenter

*Breaking News* #Galloway has been chosen as the preferred site for a new #NationalPark in Scotland. Following today’s announcement, a report will now be prepared by NatureScot for the Scottish Parliament to review in April 2025 before ministers make a final decision. As outlined in Savills recent blog, National Parks can be highly decisive. Whilst there is good evidence that such status can boost visitor numbers, for many businesses the increased red tape negates any such benefit. Can Galloway be the National Park that proves such status can work for visitors, businesses and residents in equal measure? https://lnkd.in/e98keQSS

?? #WRLDCTY | Session of the Day: Climate Reality | Margaret O'Connor - Farah Naz FCIBSE - Geci Karuri-Sebina Check out the session for free until Oct. 31: https://lnkd.in/e-3YjGyd Margaret O’Connor sat down with Farah Naz and Geci Karuri-Sebina to explore socio-technical and cultural landscapes worldwide and revealed how cities can create comprehensive, inclusive plans to address the climate emergency. Their conversation highlighted examples across the global north and south of blending environmental, social, and economic strategies to build climate-resilient cities and promote sustainable urban development in our ever-changing climate. It was incredible to see in real-time how their different approaches and models were sparking ideas for the other panelists to potentially implement in their own cities and countries, and inspired us to start thinking about our own strategies and plans. #climatechange #climateaction #climageemergency #climateresilientcities #economicstrategies #urbandevelopment #urbanplanning #futureplanning #futurethinking #cityplanning
